My new foster kitten Jasmine had a terrible start to life. She and her three brothers were found alone outside an abandoned house, and she had a terrible eye infection. One of her brothers did not make it, and a vet tech named Jasmine spent hours nursing the other three back to health. Kitten Jasmine has such a severe eye infection in her left eye that the vet today told me she is going to lose it. She has some scarring on her right eye, too, but it’s not too bad. She’s not in any pain that we can tell, so once she’s strong enough, they’ll remove the left eye.

She is doing so well after over a week on antibiotics. I bathed her a couple of days ago, and today she started grooming herself!

She also is not afraid to make it known that she wants delicious num nums.

Yes ma’am, here’s some food. She has a fantastic appetite and is gaining weight every day.

Her brothers are super healthy and way bigger than she is. Since her vision is so bad, she kinda just follows them around with her tail flicking back and forth. She really wants to play with them but they don’t understand she’s slower than them. I threw a noisy ball in there tonight, and she did a great job of pushing it around for a while. You better believe I threw ten more noisy balls in there before I left lol

I really wish I could post videos because I have the cutest vids of her walking around and being precious. I’ve deleted and re-installed the app, emailed the Imgur support inbox twice, messaged @MartynMage and @satan but nothing has worked. A few of you have said that it might work better on a desktop, but mine is currently not working. So it’ll be pictures for now. Anyone have any other ideas?

Hang tough little Jasmine. We're rooting for you.

Rooting for the kitties as always! I'm so glad Jasmine seems to be feeling better despite the eye.

She's a precious bean

This little boy bit a lamp cord while being fostered and lost a good part of his mouth on one side. But he made it. You can make it too Jasmine!

As a fellow cat foster, there's a reason why my Imgur avatar is what it is; these things happen. I'm so glad Jasmine has you to look after her like this; she has a tough journey ahead, but she is in the best of hands. Thank you for the Jasmine updates, I really want to follow her whole story!

Awww. It is very sad the one baby kitty didn't make it, but I am glad the others are doing well. Poor babies did have it rough.

This is good news! Keep us up to date!

My little girl was on antibiobiotics for months. Be prepared. At one point our vet had us getting specially compounded prescriptions. Is Jasmine coughing at all? Watch for that. Also, she might be slow to gain weight. Massive love always helps (but you know that!). I kept Stella on my chest or zipped inside a down vest for weeks. We'd sit in the sun like that. Sorry, guess I'm having a projection issue here. That's a little project you have there.

If her brothers are anything like my boys, they'll notice she's smaller and slower and start to go easy on her. If she's anything like my tiny girl, she'll go full force in all their play fights and never realize there's anything different about her!

She's a pirate cat!

My family's only cat was a pirate void with a crooked tail and a meow like a scratchy record coming through a tin pipe, and she was the best girl. Sweet, loving, wanted little more in life than a warm lap and wet food.

Don't use the Imgur app. Open the web browser on your phone (Safari if you have an IPhone). Tap in the address bar and type in https://imgur.com. You'll get a popup that asks if you want to launch the app or stay in your browser. Select browser. On IPhone (sorry, don't know how to do this on Android), click the 'aA' on the top-left of the screen and select "Request desktop website". Log in and try to upload from there. Hope this works for you!

I’m not seeing an “Aa” anywhere…? I don’t understand why this is so freaking hard lol

Awww, give her lots of snuggles for us all.

Are you saving the files as .vid or .gif? A gif may work better than a video. There are a ton of video to gif apps that would work quickly. Sorry if you've already tried that.
Love to the kittens and your selfless heart.

Stay strong little one! Losing an eye is more severe for cats than it is for dogs. Cats are vision hunters while dogs can go pretty good just with their noses. Good that Jasmine will be an always spoiled house cat!

Have you tried using the mobile web site instead of the app to upload the videos?

They adapt pretty well with loss of eyesight 😀 I have an old boy I've had since he was born (foster) and he's 16 and has almost no sight or heating. He navigates extremely well and has learned paths. We just moved too and he adapted fairly quickly to the new layout.

She is so precious and adorable. How sad she has to lose her eye, but when one has done all that they can then they can do no more. It’ll be for the best. I’m guessing the chances are she’s already unable to see anything through it, so any op in the true sense of the word won’t necessarily make any difference to her. Keep doing all that you are doing. She’s a fighter, as are you. With you in her corner I’m thinking she’ll win this one.

She's so cute I wanna scream!

I hope she is getting all the kisses and are allowed to crawl on whoever and wherever she pleases

She’s so teeny! I’m glad she’s getting stronger.

She'll be zooming in no time. I work in cat rescue, and I've seen blind cats get around fine. She'll just need a little extra time to feel confident in new spaces.

GET BETTER LITTLE BABY!!

Martyn doesn't seem to reply to any complaints any more but will be the first to pop up when something needs promoting. It's really a shame how it's all going. Anyway jasmine is gorgeous and I'm rooting for her

Thank you for the update, I wanted to ask news about her health in your last post, but I was afraid. She's so tiny 😭

I once found an abandoned kitten with a severe eye infection. We took her to the vet, who treated her for so many things and saved her life. We took her home and cared for her, fell in love with her and raised her. The one thing regret doing was the eye removal itself. One the infection heals what remains of the eyeball should basically dry up and disappear. It's not gross or scary to look at. But after enucleation and eyelid sewn closed she got infections periodically. Just my experience. DM?

Absolutely, this is my first experience with vision issues with my fosters. I know nothing. Please DM me!

Embarrassing. Don't know how to DM.

I am so sorry, but where would I find this on Imgur?! Pathetic, but Jasmine's case is my first attempt at "reaching out."

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No worries at all, so I’m on my iPhone and I see a little bell in the lower right of my screen, when I click on it two options come up - notifications or chat. That’s where I find the chats. Are you on an iPhone?
