Eddie Lack gets injured, both teams gather around in respect

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Eddie Lack was crashed into and seriously injured by a Detroit player on a game ending goal. Both teams remained on the ice as he was tended to and stretchered off the ice, even though the game was over and some fans were clearing out. This just happened so there isn't much detail on the severity of his injury, but he did give the crowd a thumbs up from the stretcher. Under such unfortunate circumstances, I thought this moment was quite something. Classy move by everyone involved. Get better Eddie!

We had the game on, missed what happened. Came back to see this on screen. They didn't replay it happening. Was happy to hear he's alright.

Hope for speedy recovery. LGRW!

This is so much better than stupid soccer where they'll kick each other into the hospital.

But most of the "hits' are taken by faking fakers who faking fake such fake ass hits it's almost funny. Well at least the gifs say so...

Knock it off.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 5

But what type of hockey are you referring to?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 18

Hockey is the toughest sport with the most respect, when called for, out of any sport, for the opposing side. Hope Eddie is ok

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's paralyzed from the neck down, nothing to worry about he's a hockey player. He'll be playing in the next game.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

But on a serious note, nobody wants to see any player in any sport get hurt. Hope he's ok.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Did you ever see the player that got a skate across his neck and blood spurted onto ice? Luckily, the team guys plugged bleeding...

Malarchuk's life was saved due to quick action by the team's athletic trainer, Jim Pizzutelli, an Army combat medic who served in Vietnam.

He gripped Malarchuk's neck and pinched off the blood vessel, not letting go until doctors arrived to begin stabilizing the wound.

I am proud to be a Wings fan because they typically have some of the best sportsmanship in the game.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ice hockey seems to be like Rugby Union. Hard brutal sports played by gentlemen. Well not all but you get it point

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm a huge football (American) fan, but yeah, hockey and rugby tend to have way better sportsmanship.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I much prefer Rugby,

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah, except there are also razor sharp blades involved, too.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And is the only contact sport not played on turf. Ice doesn't have a lot of give.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but blades that sharp doesn't require much give... As is seen time and time again.

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Hockey is like having a bunch of brothers. You have to win, and sometimes you beat the shit out of each other, but at the end of the day

Youre still brothers.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Makes me proud to call myself a hockey player.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't you think there is too much protection in hockey? What about trying a real sport?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

https://imgur.com/MYkmEpk too much protection?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not my fault you smoke too much crack.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah, the old, "Keep goin eh, we're fightin' too"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe "because" instead of "even though?"

Ice hockey?

I love this comment but nobody seems to get that it's a reference to Daniel Radcliffe saying that's how to make Canadians angry.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

The picture makes it clear that it's about ice hockey. But there is also field hockey and it's played e.g. in the summer Olympics.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why are you replying to every comment saying "ice hockey?"

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

People keep just saying hockey, I'm confused about which hockey they are talking about.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 14

There is only one kind of hockey. And then there's the s*** that f****** do on their spare time.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Isn't there a horse hockey too? They have jockeys and that rhymes with hockey.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 8

ITS JUST ICE HOCKEY THAT IS WHAT THE POST IS ABOUT

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Hey. It never says the two words ice and hockey together. Could just be a cold field for all I know. So it is hockey played on ice?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

It's why I love hockey. Players can be classy as fuck. Except the Canucks, fuck those hoes.

Eddie is a great guy. Great to see he's ok. Hopefully he didn't get a concussion as that would be his third this season.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah and what really sucks is that he has been playing great lately. But I hope he is ok.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He might be back this weekend. But I don't think he'll start with Ward playing well

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A neck strain is what they are ruling it

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Saw this this morning! Still not quite sure what's wrong, but this is good news, thanks @jcraig919 for the update

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I think it was more of a precautionary measure. He's had two concussions this season, so he's had it pretty rough.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

Ice hockey players?

Grew up with a few pro players kids. We've been told some stories that would make you rethink that haha

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well I want to fucking hear them now Lysdexic. It'd be a shame if someone made you skcuymkokc

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is that, of course.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is the message the brutal fistfights, overly aggressive checking and other such conduct sends.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Difference is--unlike athletes in other contact sports--most of them are able to leave that on the ice. They're doing a job.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's nonsense. Hockey players aren't special, they're just like other professional athletes and come with the same trappings.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess you could say my expectations are a LOT lowered.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*shrug* After hearing years and years of stories of football players getting in fights at nightclubs, these guys are tame.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

PARTIALLY.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now that I think about it, the amount of money it takes to make the NHL as opposed to the NFL partially weeds out the riff-raff.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, for every Evander Kane, there's a PK Subban.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wings had something like 250+ man-games lost to injury. Bad luck.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They have like zero first line players.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

LC Arena sounds better than Little Cesesr arena. Should of named it Gordon Howe Arena though.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I completely agree.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It will never replace the Joe. If we're stuck with the name we should at least refer to it as the "dough" Joe.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pizzarena.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree, but w/the Gordie Howe International crossing opening soon it might be a little too much Gordie (if possible). I liked Yzerman Arena

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But doubted they would name it after someone who's still active in the hockey world and is associated now with a different team.

Watch 10 minutes of an NHL game closely and you'll see plenty of hacks like that..

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"For the love of the game!" the two players shouted, before beating enough blood out of one another that both slowly exsanguinated.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

+ 1 for "Exsanguinated" LOL

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Crosby should have been suspended for several games over that. Not even a 2 minute penalty. The other guy's finger is shattered. SMDH

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 8

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 35

The Crosby incident was a freak accident. It was not a vicious slash.

9 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 23

I don't watch hockey who's Crosby?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hockey player, captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins and arguably one of top 3 players in the world.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok thank you.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Indeed, it was a slash on the hands, happens all the time, Crosby just happened to get in the one part of the glove with no protection

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

It would be like if a guy gets tripped up and gets a concussion, freak accident

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the input, random pens fan.

You are welcome. Though I'm not a Pens fan, just a hockey fan (first).

*adds The Crosby incident" to my growing list of Google searches*

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not sure why you got down voted, bud. Both teams were acting irrational that night.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

That sort of thing is becoming more common, and Crosby's reaction was to blame the victim, which just makes him easier to paste a few times.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

If the NHL isn't going to touch him for severing a dude's finger, I sincerely hope some other team calls up a goon to cripple him.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Everybody has their own opinions. Makes the world go round.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well yeah but the "opinion" was he did it on purpose. He meant to slash him, not slice his finger off.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're preaching to the converted.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd agree, if he didn't have a history of slashing, but he does. The night before he did the same thing. It was a purposeful slash

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

"the Next Great One" riiiiiiight Talented player, but a fucking dirtbag as well.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Exactly! And a dirty player because he knows he can get away with it cause of the "next great one" title, smh

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Fuck Crosby!!!!!

9 years ago | Likes 107 Dislikes 24

Exactly what I was about to say

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 7

He gets away with so much shit, whether its slashes, high sticks or goalie interference (all 3 in past 2 weeks) just cuz he's 87.

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 11

Fire bettman!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Just disgraceful. The elderly shouldn't get away with that shit just because of their age.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't forget the spear to Ryan O'Reilly's nuts

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

When Crosby retires from hockey he'll have a career in the MLS to look forward to because he's so good at flopping and faking.
