To understand this, you should understand that Dem leadership is not trying to "win elections," it is trying to "appeal to voters just enough to win elections while giving up as little moneyed interest as possible." This means, to the party's establishment leadership, a +70 is a waste of billionaire goodwill and a -50 is fine if the R candidate is at -51. And, for general elections, they are correct. This is why PRIMARIES ARE SO IMPORTANT. That is where non-billionaires get value from +70.

I haven't been a voter for long. Today was my first time voting in a primary. I'm used to picking not-so-ideal candidates as harm reduction. Who can do the most good while also doing the least harm. Today I got to vote for candidates I actually want to see in office. The magical unicorn Medicare-for-all socialist type. Even if they don't win, I'll have lost nothing and can still vote for the other guy who did win later. It's a surprisingly good feeling.

When people say "both sides," what they really mean is "I don't know how the electoral system in the US works." Understanding the electoral college is the equivalent of understanding long division which, congrats, but that's not understanding math. Learn how candidates get on the ballot. Learn how many opportunities there are before the general election to move the party in a direction that serves you. Because billionaires have, and they are literally killing you with that knowledge.

Don't know the specific video, but I agree with Reich on this (and many other things). One important caveat is that the Democratic Party is a collection of titles and logistics, not an agent with intent. The people holding those titles - and making decisions - sold out to corporations and built a moat to protect their access to those titles. But they can be replaced. In other words, "the party" can't do shit, the people in charge of it use it to do shit. Replace them. In primaries.

Or: primary season starts in 4-6 months, and primary season for the '26 midterms, in terms of getting candidates on the ballot, ended late last year. People have 4-6 months, starting now, to learn their county party's and state party's bylaws, maybe even get some volunteering practice in. A couple weeks of learning, spread over 4-6 months, to be in time for '28. I'm encouraging people to stop thinking like voters in a democracy and start thinking like participants.

Looking at your comment history, seems like you consider any politician to the right of Bernie Sanders to be fascist. This includes all the presidents in the last 50 years, as well as all the republicans and most of the democrats in congress. Firstly, Sanders is a centrist, he's only left wing in America, and secondly yes, I view the leaders of a fascist empire as fascist, because America is a fascist empire and has been since 1776. Now if any of those leaders did anything to lead us away from fascism then I would applaud them, but instead they further entrenched the fascism. Dems like Clinton, Obama, and Biden did it quietly and politely, while Reps like Reagan, Bush SR. Bush jr. and Trump did/ are doing it loudly.

So yes, you do consider everyone right of Sanders to be fascist. Your ideal presidential candidate is someone who will denounce all of his predecessors, weaken US diplomatic and economic power globally, will pick a fight w/ every significant economic and political group domestically at the same time, and you won't settle for anything less. I'll be generous and assume that you've done some good volunteering or organizing at the local level, but in elections nobody has any incentive to court you.
