With my most recent raccoon post going Most Viral (https://imgur.com/gallery/sEM0xnq) here is a flashback to the time I came home to find 2 baby raccoons napping on my deck.
This is as close as I got to them. I left them alone after this for hours, but their mom never came back. Eventually, I sadly had to call animal control, and they went to a shelter nearby. Last I heard, they are both doing well.
Note: I have since painted my deck.

So precious. There's a mom raccoon with 6 babies running around our neighborhood at night. I feed a couple of stray cats (before it gets dark), but had to go out and stand guard on the porch one night that they didn't finish. Poor mama raccoon hissed up a storm to let me know not to approach the yard while she walked her babies through. They were adorable though.

Two of these little guys were in the road stopping traffic in front of my home. We collected them up and released them that night. Their mom picked them up for a happy ending.

I rehabbed baby trashpandas legally. Some of the best animals imho, somewhere between a cross of the mischief of a cat with the socialization habits like dogs. Only one couldn't be released due to medical issues, and he lived a nice life in a raccoon house on a pole.

If my father-in-law would not be a conservation officer (New Brunswick, Canada thing) I would have so many wild racoons living with me. I'm not saying it would be a good thing I'm just saying it would be inevitable.

I had one for a short while whilst finding a rehabber. They do not understand boundaries, or "No", and child locks are generally made of materials they can gnaw through in moments, so that it to no avail. Best I could do was lock it in the shower with the valve turned off, when I couldn't actively supervise it.

Do you know what the shelter did with them? Release? Give to another facility later on?

They said it's very unlikely they would ever be able to release them back to the wild unless they could find the mother, unfortunately.

Ah, that sucks but I thought so. I think they normally learn a lot from her before separating. I was also wondering because over here they are an invasive species and if you bring an injured one to a rehab facility they are not allowed to release them again. They then give them to zoos etc.
