To be clear on a few points about this recall:
1) The recall is strictly because the product missed a required import re-inspection, not because anyone has actually found any issues with it. The meat could all be fine for all we know.
2) The recalled beef was imported BEFORE any of these claimed policy changes were made.
3) The inspections were missed due to a paperwork mishap, the rule regarding inspections was never changed.

The meat is being recalled because it wasn’t reinspected, which automatically makes it a Class 1. Not because it was making people sick. Was it safe to eat anyway? Probably not

Argentinian here, we eat our own meat ofc, and a LOT of it, and we are fine, no mass deaths nor widespread health issues, maybe there are other interests behind this move, or maybe its simply not that bad and its taken out of proportions, again, because orher interests involved? Maybe trying to use a new scapegoat to keep hiding the pedo files?

This one doesn't say there is anything wrong with the meat. Just that they didn't inspect it during import (but presumably it was already inspected, hence "reinspect").

Uninspected is presumed contaminated... esp when it is from a country like Argentina with a history of poisoned meat (China rejected the meat after testing showed a toxic antibiotic, chloramphenicol).

There is actually a whole series of toxic beef coming out of Argentina... the Chinese just rejected some 22 tons for having poison additives... and if the Chinese are wary of Argentinian beef, we need to be fucking terrified

Not poison additives exactly, chloramphenicol. A very powerful antibiotic used in humans only in extreme circumstances because it doesn’t have a great safety profile.

The substance is banned in beef, because it can cause severe blood disorders and a fatal bone marrow condition in humans.
It may work great if you have the illness it can fight, but if you don't, it can be deadly. To argue it is not a 'poison' to humans is semantics, esp since there is no safe minimum dose, so even a tiny amount can cause idiosyncratic toxicity.
This was not an overreaction by China and beef from that specific ranch has been banned, globally, from exports.

Fully agree, I just wanted to add some background info (namely that they were using a powerful but dangerous antibiotic on the cattle, it wasn’t just a random contamination event with something toxic)

We eat WAY too much beef to begin with. It's the most expensive, and by far the most climate impacting source of protein. Eat more pork, chicken, and fish, if you want to eat meat. I'm not vegetarian, but I limit my meat consumption, and beef is an occasional treat for me, not a staple. We've been brainwashed by the industry to think we need meat every day. I realize this is culturally sensitive to say, and some folks don't have many options, but if you do, consider them wisely.

I love meat. I love steak. I love cooking steak. My best guy friend is a carnivore. But I have cut way back both for health and budget. Really good seasoned ground turkey or chicken can sub ground beef for most things other than burgers and the like. My salmon game is now crazy strong. And beans and tofu are damned good when handled right.

Im not a vegetarian, but for more than just the meat industry Americans as a whole need to eat less meat and more beans and legumes for like diet reasons. B vitamins, magnesium, FIBER, bunch of really important nutrients in legumes that meat will never be able to supplement. Meat is good, and theres nothing wrong with eating meat. But it shouldn't be 2-3 meals a day that are meat based in my humble and not fully educated opinion

However, meat is the last source of food love I have left because a lot of the vegetable based proteins are a 'do not eat' due to almost end stage kidney disease. I am going to enjoy what I can while I can, because soon its going to be nutrition shakes for three months why my mouth heals due to losing my chompers once against to kidney disease.

My buddy eats vegetarian, and his partner says he's not a good one, (with no judgment) because he eats a steak every once in a while. My daughter pointed out that if that's what keeps you 'vegetarian", you're still so much better off, personally, and for the planet. Better than just throwing in the towel and not being "vegetarian".

Been vegan for 30+ years. It’s gotten way easier in the last 10 to find ample meat substitutes if that’s your thing. I’m as healthy as the next person, and I still enjoy junk food, candy, soda, etc. Just made the conscious choice to stop supporting the meat industry in all forms. Fuck those guys, and FUCK Trump and his administration of goons. We elected a clown and we now live in a circus.

1/3 couldn't bother to vote to avoid fascism. Do you think they're going to suddenly develop a revolutionary spirit and resolve?
1/3 are mostly or totally in support of authoritarianism and some will actually help their oppressors.
Which leaves you with maybe 75 million. Maybe 1/4 of them will actually fight back. Geography works against you, as does military tech.
It's not impossible but it's unlikely, especially without lots of violence.

In 2024 people had food, the economy allowed you to purchase meat and vegetables at reasonable prices. Now we have food insecurity, scarcity, and contamination and food suspicion. This government has completely disrupted the food supply of this country through economics and safety.
Even MAGA diehards will turn against them when their bellies are empty. Ask a person from the Great Depression (if any are still around) why they always kept a stocked pantry even decades after the crisis was over.
