Well, generally I would agree with you, except on two points- cops are motivated probably more by power and ego than by sadism. I doubt most of them are looking to hurt us specifically, they mostly want to be in control. But many are actually cowards too. So in the face of the military will they actually be helpful and effective? Very possibly not. But I do think a good number of them in Chicago may actually try to take the side of citizens, their friends and neighbors, over invaders. We'll see.
