Did anyone else play this? Descent 2

Mar 7, 2019 6:27 AM

My dad and I would spend hours playing this together! Great memories!

I have literally every title. Built a rig to play the new one, bought it on pre-release. Still no single player that I know of. /sigh/

It was awesome! And the soundtrack was pretty cool

Once you mastered the controls ...

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Played the original recently - I have no idea how I managed those controls. I remember it being natural when I was young but it's insane.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nope, no one else. You are the only person who ever played it.

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 18

I did. I always lost my way.

7 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

Seriously.. never got far but played so much

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's available in a DosBox wrapper on GoG.com. (or if you want to configure it yourself, you can get it for free elsewhere)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check out overload. It's a spiritual successor to the Descent franchise.

Gabbagabbahey

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check out Overload if you haven't. Spiritual successor by the same guys.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

+1000 on overload. It's descent in all but name.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh my god. On dial up with my buddy. Hell yes

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This game made me nauseous for some reason, must have been the graphics, used to throw up and get back to the game again. Good Fun.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ahh, the first game I bought on GOG, excellent series!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Descent was my first FPS and the reason I've had to invert my mouse on every game since.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Anyone remember Terminal Velocity?

7 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

It's on GOG.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

still plays

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bought the Android version for Christmas. Better than most other games on play.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I played the hell outta the demo on a PC Gamer CD.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Had a demo with one level only but still had fun

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep, another great oldie.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Omg, SOOO much of this was played at LAN parties at my house. Loved the single player too.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Remake is happening! https://descendentstudios.com/

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes!!! It was so hard to find friends to play with whereas many felt vertigo and couldn't handle the 3 dimensions.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's a modern version of it from the same creators: https://store.steampowered.com/app/448850/Overload/

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I remembered playing Forsaken on PC, which is very similar to Descent (although hardcore fans of either will tell me theirs is better :P)

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Descent: Freespace and Freespace 2 were amazing games as well.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

The new Rebel Galaxy game looks like a modern day Freespace game, I'm excited for it

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shoutout to the modding community for Freespace, they've brought the game so far graphically. 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And Blue Planet is the greatest mod I've ever encountered.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But not related to Descent. They added "Descent" to the title to help with sales and avoid copyright issues with the Freespace program.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well no, but I like to think of it as a spinoff to the Descent series.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a new Descent in development right now. Also, on Steam, there's a game called "Overload" that plays just like old Descent games.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

another decent one i played was Sublevel Zero Redux. It's procedurally generated rogue-lite with the 6 degrees of freedom type controls.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Overload IS Descent 4 in my mind.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Played it for hours and hours and hours. finished couple of times. There is a remastered version on Steam. Does not feel the same

7 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 0

Descent 3 also had nothing in common with the originals.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

GoG also has a version with the original graphics.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If you're feeling nostalgic to the original, here you go https://classicreload.com/descent-2.html

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As said, check Overload. You can also check the source port DXX Rebirth to replay Descent 1 & 2

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

check out https://www.dxx-rebirth.com/ if you want to play 1 and 2 again on a more modern engine or overload as others suggested

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check out Overload. It was made by original Descent Devs, they just didn't have the rights to the name. It's the real modern day sequel.

7 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

It also supports VR which feels awesome if you haven't tried it!

Amazing cheat codes in this game. And guidebot was my homie!

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you used them in multiplayer, the voice said "cheater!" to everyone else

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had forgotten about the guidebot!

My dad said Doom was too scary for me to play as a kid, but he let me play this because it was "A harmless little robot game"

7 years ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 1

I still have stress from this game. Destroying the core then getting lost while escaping the blast... uhhhggg

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The first game I ever played was Fallout 2, my parents said it seemed "patriotic". Probably the worst read on Fallout before 76 came out.

7 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

My mom made me get this instead of twisted metal 2

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

How was Doom scary? Doom is the opposite of scary..... unless.... Are you a family of demons?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Doom was pretty scary for a little kid. The Pinky Demon sounds used to terrify me

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, Doom is pretty atmospheric and the screams and designs could be scary for young kids.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I used to put Soacehog's "In the Meantime" on repeat and play this game for hours.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yep. And I found out I get motion sickness easily. ☹️

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

YES!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dad would watch me play, and slowly start swaying more and more, and eventually have to do something else :)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 years late, but yes! Got hooked on Descent. Bought D2 and D3 Mercenary also. Great memories!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn, I had that game, was hard as metal. I tried to run it on my current W10 PC but it wouldn't work.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I got it to run only to discover that it used the (lack of ) speed in the hardware to control the slight bobbing.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can't you screw around with the settings in DosBox to slow it down?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

better to just use a newer engine than the old dos engine on dosbox https://www.dxx-rebirth.com/

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

have a look at https://www.dxx-rebirth.com/

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Anybody aware of the 2019 Descent reboot? Saw it on upcoming stuff for the PS4 today (no date yet) but kind of excited

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I might have to buy a PS4.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It looks a bit different gameplay wise. Look up the trailer and you'll see what I mean. Probs gonna buy it anyway

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i have played overload a bit and the closest i have found to descent since descent 2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Overload is better imo.

Try "Overload" from the original creators of Descent. (PS4/XBO/PC) https://youtu.be/l6rhz_I8KWE

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I forgot this game even existed..... thought it was a figment of my imagination. Been looking for it for years

7 years ago | Likes 289 Dislikes 0

You can get Descent 1,2, and 3 on Steam

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Remake comes out this year too.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The remake is shit! Original devs made Overload as a successor. Check it on steam.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I LOVE THIS GAME my dad and I would play together too I would be the guns and he would fly us out but I forgot the name

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Here's an easy link so you can play it again https://classicreload.com/descent-2.html (game runs in your browser)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same here! Someone had out it on our computers in the school computer lab and we would play with a bunch of us all the time.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How can you forget it existed while simultaneously looking for it?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, my teens I looked for it and couldn't find it. So I forgot about it and went o with my gaming life

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have this memory of playing a game in the schools computer room around 1998. All I remember is a cutsceme where a small spaceship is 1/

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Flying along a canyon on what looks like Mars, towards a base with a big satellite disc in the center, and smaller turrets in either side 2/

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The cutsceme shifts into gameplay and it's sort of shoot em up / bullet hell style gameplay, but 3D. I have no idea what that game is or 3/

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If it's even real. All I remember is the shape of the ship and the look of the satellite base boss battle.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same!! I fucking love this game

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holy shit I feel like a part of my brain just turned on

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holy sshit, the same.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same exact story !! Even asked my siblings, they all said it never existed.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still have the CD's!!!!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Check out overload on Steam. Modern successor. It's awesome

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the info, will definitely check it out.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can't recommend that game enough. Great game, and with vr support

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dot

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This. Overload is amazing, do NOT get the Descent remake. Overload is the OG descent guys.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Haha yeah and it's hard to describe the game without sounding a little crazy.

7 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 1

Yeah it’s like descent 1 but with better graphics... crazy

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now days I swear this inspired things like Space Engineers.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you might like this too, from part of the creators of descent: https://store.steampowered.com/app/448850/Overload/

Last time I played, I managed to get into online play. BUT only once. Damn Dial-up. ?

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It had online!?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This game was trippy as heck. Made you think about your environment in 3D for reals. I've yet to hear of a modern attempt at the same.
