1)I have a fifteen pound cat who is awesome but pretty simple in the head. He could easily smother an infant that weights half that. And

I don't know. My adult cat used to climb entirely onto my head and face at night. Cuddles like this are great, but should be supervised. 1/2

Being daytime or supervised doesn't change the fact that you don't want to train them that this is OK. Animals learn from every interaction.

It looks like they're being well supervised. I let my cat sleep with my baby while I was near, but at night cat was shut out of the bedroom

I’d wager survivorship bias here. My little brother was born in 1993 and our cat always slept in his crib with him. It could’ve been bad.

SIDS is a thing. They say not to put toys in with a newborn, I doubt an actual animal is somehow safe.
