The last one didn't explain itself very well so basically the point is experiment with your brush strokes. The image here is all the same brush but with the stroke changed a bit for the different parts depending on what you're going for.

Too long; fell asleep

I can draw shit all day but when it comes to cloring shit I'm lost. I really hope my turbo shark turns out alright.

I'm working on a post for coloring practice right now. Want me to shoot you a dm when it's up?

lately I have no motivation to draw something. since I have work I use my day offs to playing games but damn I need a will

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try drawing characters or other things form the games you play. Doodle a bit. Motivation is a finicky thing but hopefully it'll return soon!

step one: learn to read

Rule of Thirds is good if you're starting out, personally I like Loomis' Informal Subdivision. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's pretty cool because it doesn't create even spaces and makes for a more interesting composition.

I would definitely recommend people try other methods as they grow. the rule of thirds is just a good place to start. Thanks for sharing!

Unfortunately these tricks are a little harder to do with oil paints.

lol i saw art tips and first thought we were talking traditional art... then i got really confused

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not really just start with a non white underpainting (duiluted burnt sienna acrylic making it off warm. Then start with the cool darks (1)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

then use warmer and warmer colors. You can even do the gray scale thing by doing a deluted BS+UB for gray with warmer +cooler glazings

Thanks for those tips. I haven't worked with a lot of traditional painters but that's good to know. So thank you.

Little bit. These are more digital based. Sorry about that but I wish you the best with your work! Have a place where you share your art?

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Nah, I haven't painted with oils since college (over 7 years ago). Nothing recent and nothing from college I would want to show off.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No worries, just a big supporter of people pursuing art even though I'm no good at it myself. What did you go to college for?

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Started off in business, then switched to art, got a degree in painting just to get done.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ah I see. Well at least now you have a diverse set of skills. Are you working in a related field now?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Step 1: Learn to draw.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Haha yeah but at what point have you "learned"? Really everyone is just trying and messing up a little less with each attempt :)

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Good point! Very supportive and inspiring :) +1

Best "trick" of all. Learn classical art techniques, and go develop a sense of skill

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

And have an internal will and ability to create.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish this was higher up. I'm by no means a great artist but I wouldn't be half as good as I am without that "trick".

Sometimes you need a little inspiration or refresh yourself on some tricks. You're right though, education and practice are key!
