I've lived in many blue states, and unfortunately I'm currently in Texas because of a job. I've stopped at Bucky's because it happened to be a gas station along the route I was going. That's it it's a big gas station with overpriced crap and food. There's nothing special about it. There's absolutely no loss in the states that don't have one. If you've been to a truck stop, you've had 95% of the experience.
I mean, it's a gas station. The bathrooms are clean. Native Texan, and I do NOT fucking get the obsession people have with Buc-ees. It's a gas station, people. Go a mile down the highway and there's another one.
Gas station with large, clean bathrooms. And a decent variety of munchies. I have never gone out of my way to hit one, but now they are on my "avoid" list.
Not gonna be able to go to any state if they keep coming and suing everyone. Glad they lost in Ohio and I'm glad John Oliver put them in their place. I'll proudly wear my Buc-Off shirt when it arrives.
In a typical display of MAGA's lack of irony, the founder admittedly stole the Bucky Beaver name and mascot from an old 1950s toothpaste called Ipana and now sues everyone else.
As a Texan, I've been saying Fuck Bucees for a solid 26years every time I passed that first big one on my way to San Antonio (even before the mega expansion). The place is a theme park for morons complete with theme park pricing.
John Oliver’s been publicly shitting on Buc-ee’s for a few episodes now. Selling Buc Off merch and the proceeds will go to charity. He’s daring them to sue him. They’re trying so hard to ignoring it. Lols
There's red and blue and purple areas in every state. Even Wyoming and Massachusetts. On the overall level, there are red states and blue states though. Most of states are basically about guaranteed to vote for one particular party for President every election.
"I tHoUgHt ChArLeS WaS tHe OnLy KiNg!" Yea, and you fuckin' cowards act like you would fight the red coats if you were sent back in time, instead of clearly letting them stay in your homes and touch your kids.
"tHe ReAl KiNg SiTs On HiS tHrOnE iN hEaVeN!!" Sure, and he'll be real fuckin annoyed you all made an actual gold plated statue of a man he'll be chuckin' into hell.
I was mostly impressed by the bathrooms. They aren't those cheap ass stalls, they had full on doors and were fully enclosed, and there were a lot of them, and the entire place was very clean. Not a lot of public bathrooms area in my experience.
I live within ready distance of the new one in Arkansas that opened last week. Went there to hog watch and see what what and yeup, just needlessly large gas stations with added food and merchandise. Of course it is a tourist destination because there's fuck all to do around here.
The level of cultural death and stagnation in red states is good explanation of why conservatives are so evil. They don't see any benefit in society because they create trash societies.
Did a little research, a little trick MAGA people don't know about (and probably hate), and 9% of all Buc-ee are in a Blue State. 5 of 56 locations. Blue state is if they're a democratic governor, so Kentucky is one. So, let's say minus two of the 5, because the rest of Kentucky is redneck. We are now at 3/56, for 5.35%. Arizona is a purple state, a swing one, so it's minus 0.5. 2.5/56 for 4.46%. Round ups = 5% of all Buc-ee are in a blue state.
Red states are typically poorer and less populated then blue states. Imagine giving up doing business with California and New York for only Alabama and Missouri instead? Seems like a career limiting move
Honestly, it was just a stupid business statement. All they had to say was "we'd like to keep Buckeys as a staple of southern charm." While quietly moving into red mid western states and never discussing why.
My hot-take is they are doing this to take advantage of business-friendly states where they can abuse their employees legally. They are just using the red v blue angle to make it seem like it's not about that.
Yeah, but have you considered that Alabama and Missouri don't have the same level of worker protections as New York and California, and therefore I can squeeze out more money cause I can exploit the workers there easier.
They're based in Texas and spreading out from there geographically; it'd be a while before they get to California and New York. By then, no one will remember this being said, and they'll open stores in those states if they think they can make a buck from it. No company concerns themselves with the long-term memory of the American people.
Have they even broken ground in Mebane yet? It kept popping up in the news for years that it's right around the corner but every time I drive by it's just an empty field.
California and New York make companies pay a living wage, provide benefits to people who work 5 days per week, and don't allow the endless litigation loop if an employee tries to sue. They were never going to be able to make anywhere near the profit they can make as a "highway oasis" in a flyover state. This is not a career limiting move, this is political theater to appease the shitty people who like the brand. They've known for years they can't make a profit on either coast.
the hell they do in California. We may have a higher than most states minimum wage but most companies still just pay minimum wage which is NOT a living wage in California
Bucees pays significantly higher than other similar job postings in my area ($14-15/h vs $12ish), but they treat their workers like complete shit. I've also never seen a bucees entrance that didn't have anti-union propaganda on it.
Man $2 more per hour is not "significantly" higher. That is BARELY higher. And they would very much have to pay more than $14 hour to retain employees in CA and NY.
the minimum wage in California is 16.90/hr. Approximately 65% of hourly workers make between 16.90 and 19.90. and it's not a living wage even in the lowest cost area in California.
Not even in the same vein as a 7-11. Amazing, fresh cooked food, 100+ gas pumps, ultra-large and obsessively clean restrooms. Not to mention, a truly impressive retail side. You can disagree with the politics but Buc-ee's is in a league of their own.
A lot of people here like to pretend they're so much better than others, but that you're being downvoted so much shows you how quick they are to throw away any sort of objectivity in order to bash something they don't like politically. Anyone who has ever been to a Buccees will see plain as day it is leagues above a 7-11.
I'll be the only one to agree with you here. The politics are bad but you are either lying or straight up delusional if you can't admit that bucees is a league of their own when it comes to travel stops. Flying J, Loves, Pilot, are all nice, but they absolutely pale in comparison to bucees.
We get it, it’s the latest regional Flying J, Pilot, and Love’s to go national before being strip mined after they are eventually bought by private equity. There is literally nothing new about Buc-ees from an operational standpoint, just updated marketing with more focus on retail drivers rather than commercial long haul.
Sorry, dude, this statement is simply wrong. Multiple incredible restaurants that aren't a freakin' burger king or Subway in about 70,000 sf. - slow-smoked chopped brisket sandwiches, which are chopped and sauced right at the active carving stations and high-quality breakfast served all day. Famous for dozens of pristine private restrooms, massive wall-to-wall brisket and jerky counters, fresh fudge, and vast merchandise sections.
Not even 'more focus' on regular drivers, Buc-ees flatly *bans* all semis from property unless they are actively delivering to that exact store, and they have to leave immediately after. Even their own fuel drivers can't park there.
Now granted, the modern American truck driver is a nasty creature that leaves piss bottles and bags of literal shit behind, so I can't exactly disagree with them even though as a driver, I got beef.
There is nothing unique about them beyond their mascot, and aren’t doing anything different from Sheetz and Casey’s, both of which also have the same rabid followings in their rural origin markets.
The orginal comment I was responding to was that it can hardly be compared to a 7-11 and all you rage baiters went all feral. And if you're comparing it to a Flying J or Pilot, then you've obviously never actually been to a Buc-ee's.
In texas they are . i tink it because when you dont understand art or history gallas and museums are out/ and if you cant read, libraries are out... Gas stations is suddenly top notch.

It really is wild because obviously no one has explained their own business model to them. They are gas stations that make all of its money inside with overpriced merchandise and food. Now they are talking about only building these overpriced gift shops in red states that lack disposable income. What could possibly go wrong?
it's a gas station with decent food good snacks but they are always so crowded. but when you're on a road trip, those clean private bathrooms are too good to pass up.
