The air pressure at 431m below sea level is much different than the water pressure. Water adds much more pressure per unit of depth

Submarines aren't pressurised, at 30 feet he'd be experiencing about 2 atmospheres. Which isn't a lot by diving standards, but 73 days is a long time to be underwater at pressure.
