It takes time for SSRIs and related drugs to do their thing. There are complex biological explanations for why it takes so long and also psychological ones, but whatever the reason you need to stick with it to see results.
The first 6 weeks were rough in my case, and I took 2 types of pill before my current one but now I think I've got a decent one. Alcohol is a no go, but 0% pink gin and lemonade is nice if you need an alternative. But now I can honestly say that I probably would've had to drop out of college if I wasn't taking my meds, they really did improve life and I hope so much that you also get that
Exactly! @op this is excellent advice, if at any stage these ones arent feeling right then go talk to the doc and adjust dose or change meds. Took ages for us to get my mums right.
It's a lovely little twist how most antidepressants make you feel worse for a couple of weeks first. And then maybe they work out, but maybe they don't. And if they don't, then they make you feel even worse for a couple of weeks while you come off em and then the new ones, well, you know the drill. Good luck, hope it works well for you!
That's awesome! Go with that feeling. Get a hot shower and go out and grab coffee somewhere. Not every day on medication is going to be a great day. Revel in the days you get that feel good.
Glad it's working for you, just remember there's no shame in it, being medicated isn't cheating and did you do decide you don't need them any more, wean off slowly!
I've been on Paxil for a couple months now. I remember the first time where I noticed I was in a good mood. Honestly it was almost frightening. Like I didn't want to think about it too much or poke at it for fear of it popping like a soap bubble. I'm glad you're doing better, OP. Keep up the good work!
If I start feeling down, I catch up with the latest bullshit from Fox, then just get angry these assholes think they have a right to lie. I find I work my anger out better than I do depression by writing and making a meme or something and I get to feel good again. Then when the wife tells me I've done something good, I know I've got it right. Most of all, the cat snuggles into me and all is right in my world again.
I've forgotten what an orgasm is like instead. . Also I'm not horny anymore. Started way before I got the antidepressants. But at least I can get up from bed. Have a shower sometimes. And the sucidal thoughts have calmed down a lot
Pro Tip: After a couple of years when you start feeling like maybe you're a normal human being, DO NOT STOP taking your pills. That there is suicideville.
When I decided to wean off of my SSRI I had been in a good place for months. My meds brought me out of the darkness, but I reached a point where I felt like I was in a bit of a fog. Not enough to impede my day to day, but enough that I could notice. I felt like they were keeping me from taking the last couple steps to "normal". It took almost a year to wean off of them and I lost insurance and my job right near the end, so I had to finish the process alone, just the last step down.
Came here to say the same thing. There is nothing wrong with taking anti-depressants for the rest of your life! Nobody shames people who need blood pressure medication or insulin! Your brain doesnt make the right chemicals, that aint on you my friend. Anti-depressants are life saving medications that you should be PROUD of taking, you are looking after yourself, thats what you are meant to do!
Sometimes I'll forget to take mine for a couple days, I don't feel like killing myself, but certainly feel like hurting others. Intense manic rage over every little thing. If I were to go cold turkey I would have to be committed to an institution for like a month. This shit is scary, but it's the only thing keeping me somewhat "functional"
Ugh! I just had to go 4 days (vomiting) without. My boss dosen't know how close he came to me raising my voice today. Big voice, the techs are not used to it. They become scared.
Yah my dad stopped for a week beat his cousin up, and got a divorce within 7 days after 45 years of marriage. Fucking party. Also he’s an alcoholic so.
Addendum, this isn't because "your underlying depression is still so bad you'll crash back into it," it's more due to the fact that SSRIs cause an incredibly high chemical dependency. There is a VERY SPECIFIC way doctors will wean you off antidepressants a little at a time if you really think that's the best course of action, but DO NOT quit cold turkey.
Currently going through it…. Not By Fucking Choice! Aetna insurance has decided I no longer need 60mg of Fluxotine(generic Prozac) daily and refuses to pay to refill my prescriptions and the pharmacy only does 90 day supplies of meds and I can’t afford to pay the $250 it costs without insurance. I’m on about day 90 right now and I’m losing my shit, my wife is on the verge of leaving me, yes I am that much of a miserable cunt to be around when I’m off my meds.

REMEMBER pills will lose some effectiveness over time, make sure to stay on top of it and get stronger ones / communicate said changes to your psych.

Pretty sure they meant "serotonin." Also, seconded! Congrats, hon. Depression's a bully and a liar. I'm very glad for you.

I thought that was heart medication. Am I getting it confused with something else?

It's the brand name for Paroxetine. It's an SSRI. Anti-depressant.

Yeah but now you can't cum :( Welcome to the club

Idk I've been on 5 or 6 different SSRIs / SNRIs and actually found the opposite to be true (too quick). It's not the likely outcome but ymmv
mp7nl
Sure you can. It is more difficult but you just have to discover what excites you enough to reach an orgasm.
SteelKnight
Depends on the specific medicine, I switched from sertraline to mirtazapine and I like it better, sertraline gave me a bad arse too.
BillyM00n
While completely true, I feel weird either up or downvoting this. Can I mehvote it?

You can't cum with depression either.

Nonsense, sex is how I cope with my lack of meds. Any endorphin hit is better than none.
fedeColorTerror
I don't know. It doesn't work for me. If I'm depressed I can't get horny and I can't cum.
AllMyOpinionSuck
Not everyone reacts the same way to the same situations sadly
