Why is there no smoke? I’ve seen so many launches and there is always smoke.

Engines are burning the kerosine super efficiently which outputs only water and co2. This will still leave a contrail of water vapour at /
the beginning and end of the flight where the booster is close to the ground. In space shuttle there was a lot of smoke which came from the/
solid rocket boosters which produced all kinds of combustion products.

Yes, I was lucky enough to hear the Space Shuttle tear the atmosphere apart.
I was there for John Glenn's return to space on the shuttle. It is still the most spectacular event I have ever experienced.

I live fairly close to a rocket mfg plant. When they would test them you could be miles away and still feel the ground shake. So much power.

I've seen Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Space Shuttle launches in person. Saturn Vs were the best. Loud and the blast had a great punch to it

Launches were years apart. My father would schedule family vacations based on launch dates. He was an engineer and loved the space program.
