I like country music. The problem is that the vast majority of what gets called country music from the past 25 years is actually faux-patriotism conservative-cowboy-slop. The right can't make good art, and they've dragged country's good name through the mud while proving it.

It just depends on what it is. I like specific artists with specific sounds. Dolly Parton? Love her, huge fan. Toby Keith? Hated literally every song he made, felt absolutely nothing upon hearing of his death. I would never blindly support a genre and it would take a LOT to make me discount an entire genre. It’s about the individual artist, always.

There are very few country songs I like, and none of them are "patriotic"/jingoistic or "look how country I am" bullshit.
The Thunder Rolls, Seminole Wind, Church Bells (to my surprise; normally I hate Carrie Underwood songs by default), Neon Moon... probably a handful of others but they're slipping my mind. Normally I'm more of a symphonic metal, goth metal, punk rock, or prog rock person. And Ghost, love me some Ghost.

They have a decent sound. I enjoy bands that fuse rock/blues/bluegrass. They are a bit too mixed/canned for my taste. Electronic/experimental makes for a good sound, but doesn't have the same emotion that you get from blues/bluegrass especially. Did make me dust off some Muddy Waters tunes today.

I would have done bandcamp if I had about $750 lying around to buy all my music. As it stands, I have multiple playlists, with multiple artists, albums and singles, which after going through bandcamp to recreate my ONE rock/metal playlist(150+ songs) it would cost me over $600 to buy it. Not including my other 10+ playlists. So I will not be using bandcamp.
I use Tidal instead. They actually have most everything Spotify does, is cheaper, gives more to artists, and has stuff Spotify doesn't!

I don't usually listen to country. I watched it because it was a documentry with 3 beautiful women. Basically country music stations wouldn't play them because they said "they were embarrassed to be from the same state as George Bush(jr.)" at a concert in London England. Well their album still made #1 in most American areas because listeners switched to the pop music stations.

Most people don't realize that even in the 1970s that there were crap Country that was at the top of Country Billboard. There was a reason Cash, Willie, Waylon, and Kris were considered Outlaw Country.

At this point I just think certain people are determined to hate genres with absolutely no effort to find the songs that would prove them wrong. Just live by the rule that only Sith deal in absolutes and hope you find me on a lucky day where I'll play Google for you. Otherwise I recommend streaming channels that may help, I usually just say listen to The Current, the MPR music branch, for good contemporary and older songs from all genres.

There was a time where country music were songs about the struggle of the working class, it wasn't as divisive as it is today. Old country apngs had themes about unionizing, fighting back against cops and a general distaste for whatever tf rich people were doing.

That would more describe "folk" music as opposed to "country", "Americana" is where the line kinda blurs.
But if you're thinking of Woody or Arlo Guthrie; the Seegers (Pete or Peggy; by extension, Peggy Seeger's husband, Ewan MacColl is also a folk artist); Wobbly Artists like Haywire Mac, Utah Phillips, etc.; general union/labor protest songs ("Which Side Are You On?", "We Will Not Be Moved", etc.); or modern artists like Jesse Welles, Jordan Smart, David Rovics, etc. that is the "folk" genre

If you want the difference: "Folk" music is more hard-edged than country, generally being more scaled back in instrumentation and musicianship (oft vocal only, vocal & guitar, and sometimes banjo, rarely having full percussion or percussion at all; vs. Country's greater variety of instrumentation), and carries the themes of political activism and folk tradition far more prominently.
Also, divisiveness depends heavily on locale. Leftist folk doesn't hide itself.

I hate country music. My dad insisted on listening to nothing but country when I was a kid. Hearing it basically nonstop for the first 13 years of my life created a long-standing hatred of the entire genre that has yet to end more than 20 years later.

Bus driver as a kid (high school years, all fucking 3 of them) used to play the fucking horrid bloody 'ACHY BREAKY HEART' song, on repeat the WHOLE FUCKING trip to school then back home. Was nearly an hour trip both ways(country bumpkin kid bussin' it to school every day) - Tell u WHAT, Country music, EVERY BLOODY SONG EVER, sounds the damn same to me now. Brings back trauma. Take that non-music teeth ache noise and stuff it. Almost as bad as (C)rap. (At least some of THAT is decent)

In general, I agree, but I still, and always will, enjoy, old, real country music. Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash, Waylon, Willie and Merle? Those dudes are legends, and the ladies as well, Wynette, Cline, Wells. But, yeah, I stopped listening to country on the radio the day I was tuning through the stations and the same song was playing on the country station, and the two top 40 pop stations.

It gets worse. My dad also insisted on the radio always being on wherever he was. So there had to be music playing at all times, and it had to be country. There was a period after my parents divorced that I barely wanted to listen to music at all.
