Out of pedantic curiosity, was that a graft or a transplant. It looks like they too were toetally cutting down to the foot of the dermis, i forget the name.

This was a graft. Yuck factor aside, the procedure was actually fascinating. They used skin from my thigh - and while I was under general anesthetic when they did the graft, the surgeon showed me the device they use to harvest the graft tissue. It's basically a large cheese slicer, lol.

Can you wear footwear or have to have it bare to let the skin…graft? How long does it take? Was it your skin? I imagine if they took out a piece of skin from somewhere else they’d have the same problem from where they took it.

This was almost 10 years ago, so although there's permanent nerve damage, it healed well otherwise and I can wear shoes again (need to be lace-up, usually, as slip-ons tend to make the damaged nerves tingle). Took about two months to heal, and far longer to look close to normal! I can still make out the area on my thigh from where they took the skin graft :)

Not at all - 375F cooking oil landed on my foot because someone bumped into the fryer -

Thank you all for the kind well wishes! This was actually almost 10
years ago, and was courtesy of some 375F oil landing on my foot. The graft came from my thigh, and while there is permanent nerve damage, it healed well. Nobody is allowed in my kitchen when I'm frying things now 😂

One of my skin grafts on my foot failed catastrophically and now I have a heckin' big and ugly scar. But my reconstructed foot is what is most noticed. Mine came from thigh under the glute. You're doing well and it looks like healing. Well done

Glad you're all healed up here in the future. What's crazy is how differemt skin grafts are now from what I can tell. It looks like a plaster patch when they take it off and put it on. Something about it healing faster or better.

Same thing happened to my hand. I was extremely lucky. I was within 3 minutes waking distance of a hospital, I washed and cooled my hands with room temp water and was there within 5 minutes, and I got daily treatments there. 2nd degree burns. It healed without a scar. Same exact circumstances as yours. I'm not sure if that or what else made the difference. I'm really sorry you weren't as fortunate.

Wow, so fortunate you were so close to medical aid and moved quickly! I had 20 people over for dinner when the accident happened. Ran cool water over it, bandaged it up, and kept on cooking. Should have been worried that it didn't hurt after initial contact - that's a clear sign of nerve damage. But I just kept right on frying like an idiot, lol.
