Simple vs complex resistance. Simple is where people can clearly see the oppressor is different. They raise an army.
Complex is where the enemy is from within. Gets harder because there’s a negotiation hoping the opposition will honor societal norms.
All that to say is I know there is a hope the other guy will suddenly come to his senses, but sometimes that conflict will involve throwing hands. I’m all for peace but sometimes you have to flash a piece for it.

Not saying going a peaceful route isn’t preferable because open fighting cost more lives and resources even if the bad guy wins.
I’m going to wager that the peaceful revolutions though were possible because the folks in power saw the alternative was a fight with a larger or more threatening entity that they wanted to avoid. Read Negroes with Guns or watch the PBS documentary on YouTube.
