Late 15th Century Gothic Armour

There are quite a lot of photos to to try and give a thorough view of this harness, for information about this scroll to the bottom.

The armour is dated to 1480, and attributed to the armourer Ulrich Rämbs.

It weighs: 27.161kg (man's armour); 30.07kg (horse's armour); 10.17kg (maille)

It is fairly typical of late 15th century German gothic armour, and is one of the more well known sets (at least in Britain).

The armour belongs to the Wallace Collection in London and is on full display along with their extensive collection of European arms and armour.

However one very important thing to note.

The greater proportion of this harness was produced in the 19th century. At least 50%. The backplate, sallet skull, left cannons (wrist armour), and left couter (elbow) and some of the legs are old, as is most of the horse armour. But the rest was produced later to complete the set.

All that being said it is still a beautiful set of harness, and hopefully this has given you a bit of a look into how armour works.
