I don't care if this dies in user sub. By the time the cheeto'd masses realize Climate Change isn't a liberal topic, it'll already be too late...because its already too late now.

It’s amazing how so many people laughed at climate change warnings and none none of them are owning up to being wrong.
oldguyexlurker
10-day forecast doesn't show that changing until the 27th. Then there are a couple days at 109F, so they could go over as well. Maybe the 31st will be a nice, cool 105F.

You mean building a city in a desert turned out to be a bad idea? I'm shocked.

Even this is happening way fast than predicted. It’s 2023 not 2030

Okay, I'm not a denier. But using Phoenix at 110f is not a good argument.

I was in Palm Springs 10 years ago in August. It got over 110F several days in a row, peaked at about 115F. Holy hell that's hot. Never again for my white British ass.

One year my summer camp here on PA was 110 in the shade.

I let my neighbor/landlords dog come inside my house today because he’s aus shepherd and has so much long hair and it’s almost been 110 outside. We live in a rural area, my landlord lives down the road and owns the groves around us and a dairy down the road so their dog Luke is very much the farm dog who roams the properties . He’s always filthy but he’s so sweet and he wanted in so bad out of the heat. He just came in and laid down on the cool hardwood floor and napped for several hours.

I honestly thought it was an earlier episode, not one of the four that aired in syndication only, but you're right.

I'll give one thing to conservatives, they have a high threshold for pain.
thisiswhyicanthaveanythingnice
Conservatives are going to realize they were wrong, but the idiots they are, they will be like “oh well, there’s nothing we can do now.”
Timberwolves4ever
I’ve come to realize that even if all the land ice melted and the Statue of Liberty was above water starting just below it’s elbow. The one holding up the flame…There will still be a significant amount of people in denial that this was all caused by industrializing fossil fuels and the greenhouse effect. The rest of us just need to vote these clowns out and get nuclear fission here by like 2030 instead of 2050+.

They wont realize shit and theyll keep eating the shit that gets poured into their mouths by those who want them to see the libs as the problem
oldmanwalker
They’ve already changed their tune to… ‘f-n liberals stopping nuclear power’.
Radix865
Or they'll blame the libs for not doing more to stop it.
fishcakes23
Or blame liberals for politicising it…

My guess is they’ll “both sides” the argument
pinatafarmer
It'll be like JASTA when they tried to blame Obama for not doing enough to stop THEM from doing something they were clearly warned about.
Me1iss0
No they came out recently and said they were going to plant a trillion trees. There aren’t enough places in the world to grow enough trees to stop this. That is a band aid solution now. Offsetting carbon won’t work, we need to change out habits now.
thisiswhyicanthaveanythingnice
“LOoK aT mE, i’M a ViRomEntALisT!” Too late assholes.
JacaByte
We need carbon taxes and a serious decarbonization effort NOW or we need to get out the torches and pitchforks
BeerFueledAdventurer
I mean, there's also liberals who are already like 'It's too late now' (eg. the @OP), but I'd counter that it's not too late -- it may NEVER be 'too late' -- but it WILL become increasingly difficult to halt or reverse the process.
Santac99
Its never “to late”. Theres a huge difference between all of US being like Arizona Or Only Half.
unluckyandbored
We can't stop it. It's way too late for that. Best we can do is slow it down a little.
GWJYonder
It is too late to halt or reverse the process, but it's never to late for mitigation/control.
echosierra775
Oh, it will definitely be too late someday. When the dying sun expands to engulf the planet. But we don't have to trouble ourselves with THAT, kinda like what we're doing now.
iambowser
I kinda doubt it at this point, people are saying that this is completely normal in the phoenix subreddit and at my work. They'll say "this is fine and normal" to new record temps
F4ndango
Yep! And even if they do eventually think it’s getting warmer, it won’t be for the reasons the Libs said it was.

Meanwhile, tourists are flocking to Death Valley, hoping to experience the potential GLOBAL heat record which might happen there at some point around now...
OriginalAndWitty
I went in September a couple years ago thinking it'd be alright. 122. Just unbearable. It was burning the palms of our hands walking around.
Leonon
The trick is to wait until next year so you can experience the new record.
DatDarthCaedus
The heat record for my country (Sweden) is 38.0C (100.4F) set in 1933 and 1947, and one of them was actually fairly close to where I live... think our newer records are more that we have a higher average temperature, later/earlier high temps, or milder/warmer winters. I can barely function at above 30C unless I drink and cool down constantly...
StrangerRangerDanger
that's stupid. it's even dumber when you realize that we'll probably have a new record next year and the year after that.
FreeDadHugs
They're gonna step out of their air-conditioned cars and suffer a cardiac arrest from the +50 degree temperature jump.

black3beard
Scientifically it is. The earth has been warming continuously since the last major ice age, minus the micro ice age during 1929 due to solar flares. None of which was due to man. Measuring only a 200 year period of weather and temperatures does not dictate the facts of the last 25,000 years. However with the help of geology (studying rocks and the earth below us) we can with out a doubt see the changes, which show that the carbon levels did not rise until after the temperature changes. (1/2)
black3beard
Mt. Mazama (crater lake in oregon) when it blew it threw more pollution into the atmosphere and affected the climate more than man has and likely ever will! Mt. St. Helens even spread ash all over the world. In the late 90s a metallurgy plant in oregon had to do a year study to see how much of their smoke traveled to crater lake, absolutely zilch, nothing whatsoever.
swedeonamoose
This feels more like the finding out part of building a city in a desert.
Hextator
That's a weird way of phrasing that. Phoenix was habitable all this time, and could possibly continue to be, in perpetuity...so you can't mean that "building a city in a desert" is bad, but specifically, that doing so when it might go to shit because of awful people is what's bad. (For the record, with that mindset, we may as well not do anything, ever.) I'd rather just hold people accountable than blame victims - of the heat, or otherwise.
spookyactionatadistance
Phoenix is so hot that it was a gag already on KotH. But yes, we will not only make it hot but potentially inhabitable.
GarmBlack
"This city should not exist, it's a monument to man's arrogance!"

It's likely been too late for 30+ years. Don't have children, it's irresponsible at this point.
buzzedontacos
I’ve been thinking the same thing. The state of the planet and the struggle future generations might have to endure is frightening.
aRootinaTootin
By that logic it’s been irresponsible to have children throughout the entirety of human existence on earth. Which isn’t to say you’re wrong, just a bit misguided.
Onda6g
UnGuide me please.
MatrimBloodyCauthon
If we are going to ever make this planet a livable place, we will need to teach the next generation what that entails when we are gone. There will be a ton of bigots having kids and teaching them awful values. Obviously don't have kids if you can't support them, but selfish though it might seem, the more smart people we have, the better. That's my take.
StewedTomaters
It's not like bigots beget bigots and smart people produce none, though.
MatrimBloodyCauthon
That's also true!
JacaByte
I don't want to sound like a doomer, but I kinda think a climate catastrophe that causes mass starvation and nuclear water wars is a very real possibility in the next 50 years. The heat is being raised so slowly that the majority of voters are not going to take climate change for the existential threat it really is and ultimately they will fail to act in time. That does not sound like an environment I want to raise a child in to me.
Onda6g
Doom away. It seems more likely than not at this point. Maybe that's our best form of mass protest, we simply stop participating. Fuck yall, we're not bringing more wage slaves to the party until you unfuck the punchpowl
MatrimBloodyCauthon
We are both right.
