Hello you delightful gaggle of hooligans. I have once again made a creative thingy. Unfortunately, I paint with words instead of brushes, which makes it difficult to show off my work like other artists. How I wish I could instantaneously blast the information into your rods and cones.

Definitely sounds interesting. One note/question: What era is it set in? The description reads something like an Indian Indiana Jones, but may be more modern? I also see the very last line mentioning dark fantasy, so it could go more 'generically medieval' style fantasy, so it's kind of unclear.

Sure! For a real world comparison, it's like mid 1800s America. Westward expansion with a healthy dose of magic. Hope that helps. Let me know if you're interested.

Unfortunately, it is increasingly the state of publishing these days. Publisher and even agents look upon you less favorably if you can't prove you can also muster an audience. As someone soon to be in a similar place I'm dreading the selling myself part of publishing.

The two books are set in the same frontier city and take place roughly half a year apart. They follow their own protagonists who explore different aspects of life in the world. Both have their fair share of beasties and magic.

The second one is ALSO on Kindle Unlimited! The key difference is I published number two myself, so the rough edges got a better sanding job as a result lol

Honestly? I made a post like this for my first book, and one of the comments/suggestions was that people like to see author initials in the fantasy genre. Figured, "Hey, I've got some of those!" Was a bit of a nuisance to get the two tied together on Amazon, but it's otherwise grown on me.

You'll never know unless you try! Rejection sucks, and while it never feels good, it does get easier. Just go into it knowing you will likely get knocked on your ass a few times. Get the bad words and bad experiences out of the way up front, get back up and try again.
It's better to try and fail than never risk anything and regret it years later.

Most authors don't make enough to live of off. Avery successful author of a best seller might make 10k.

There's a few legit options that can let you make your writing into a full-time job, but ALL of them are hard. Short answer:
Trad- Query agents and editors and pray you make it through the slush pile and get a contract (likely very modest). Publisher does the leg work, you do the writing.
Indie- Hit Amazon and sell your book yourself. You do writing and legwork, but have more control.
Hybrid- Indie first, be somewhat successful, get picked up by a publisher of some kind. (this is what I'm doing)

Ran outta space but that's the basics. No matter what route an author goes, it's guaranteed to be a lot of work, and absolutely zero guarantee of any success. It's a rough process, but worth it if you can hang in there.
