#13 why us this in Star Trek font?

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

The character speaking is one of triplets who get differentiated in the manga with different fonts for each one. That's a fan translation, they must have picked the Star Trek one just because. But that's not even the weird part... The guy they're fighting is Che Guevara, who had pissed on them as a distraction after they beat up Mike Tyson. Baki The Grappler is *wild*

if you're not already, you should be on the discord, it's fucking great. It's the first thing I check when I wake up

1 year ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

I had an issue with discord last year where my IP got banned because I tried joining a server (Battleborn). Had to make new accounts (took 2 to figure out it went straight to IP instead of just banning the original). I'm now afraid to join servers :( I don't want to lose another account since I'm a server admin. Even Discord support said I shouldn't have been banned, just a faulty bot

#44 what kind of animal is that? A Stoat?

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

ᶜᵃᵗ

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A sable. Which is in the same mustelidae family as a stoat. But a stoat is a weasel and a sable is a marten, so different genus and species.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think its a sable, and now I want one as a pet despite the fact that I know absolutely nothing about them other than theyre fucking adorable

#26 I keep seeing this Venn diagram. I do not understand the difference between leftists and liberals. In Oklahoma, you're either compassionate or a jackass. There's really no in between. I wonder if this is an attempt to divide people.

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

To oversimplify, leftists cite capitalism as the source of many social ills and want to dismantle it, liberals think capitalism is ultimately good, we just need more laws either controlling how people act under it, or creating better incentives, so that people stop doing it wrong. They share alot of the same philosophical underpinnings otherwise, so they'll work together on some issues, but leftists and liberals advocate for very different looking worlds.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

One way to look at being a leftist and getting shit done with liberals is understanding that capitalism cannot go in a day, or even a century. This shit is here to stay for the moment and making it better for the people is the wisest, most realistic set of goals. You can't protest vote as a leftist because then you get put in a camp with the liberals anyway. Unless you genuinely have a better choice with a chance of winning there's no point to protest voting. TIL I'm leftist

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was made by a European, and in Europe, a “liberal” is actually a centrist conservative. Apparently they hate leftists and the far-right equally.

I don’t know if I’ve ever met a liberal who “likes” capitalism here in America. At best, I’ve seen it described as a necessary evil. This of course excludes politicians who have to praise it almost by rote

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Thank you! That makes so much more sense to my US-centric brain.

I've definitely met a lot of moderate liberals in the US who are pro capitalism. It's super common in wealthy blue cities in California. "Fiscally conservative, socially liberal", NIMBY's, etc. The type of Democrat that voted for Schwarzenegger (a moderate Republican) for governor because they liked his fiscal policies and he wasn't too far right socially.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I’ve found a lot of people who are “pro-capitalism” think it’s the only way for personal property to exist - like they’ve mistaken it for trade, or they’re under the impression that socialism means there’s no room to excel

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hard agree. They drank the Kool aid, not enough to be truly evil, but enough that they can't imagine a different system working. Even though it works all over the world. They are so scared that they might lose any of their wealth that they can't see all the ways socialist policies in a capitalist society can save people money and make things more efficient.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tbh leftists in America really did create a bit of a divide in this last election cycle. Millions stayed home, millions more voted third party, and now we have this. All in the name of helping Palestinians by electing the most pro Israel president ever. It was a well meaning but totally performative protest that fucked us all. I wouldn't call myself a liberal, but I also don't want to be associated with, well, that. I also don't think leftists are as bad as conservatives.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Conservatives are outright evil where leftists basically just pulled a Wile E Coyote.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Conservatives try to shove the rock down the hill, and a large bloc of leftists refuse to push it up the hill if it means being side by side with Liz Cheney, even if Bernie Sanders joins them

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Love your name. It honestly feels like a lot of leftists just look for excuses not to vote.

not funny. It's stupid as hell. But for 6am, sitting in the toilet, trying to work out whether waking up was a good decision for the day, for some reason when I saw man-pineapple and my brain caught up I laughed more than was reasonable.

Hey @abbiistabbii I installed Linux Mint ! PC didn't explode, it's easy and I'm having fun customizing the cosmetics

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Welcome to the fold, fellow Mint user!

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ooh, I'm edging closer and closer to abandoning windows (only on it cos it's the default). Would you be kind enough to say why you went for Mint over a different option?

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I almost went with Zorin OS, and actually tried it a bit. It's also very simple to use coming from windows, and great with older PCs, but ultimately it's waaay less popular than Mint (which is recommanded by everyone it seems) and it means there are less tutorials and forums to read if you run into an issue. So I tried Mint and felt right at home so I settled on that. Since I'm brand new to Linux, it's reassuring to know there is a lot of support available. The Zorin forum apparently answers /1

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Questions pretty fast but I'd rather google and read than have to make a post myself.
Zorin and Mint are both based on Ubuntu, so they're pretty similar and there is a good chance you can use a ubuntu tutorial for both.

Zorin is visually very "pure" and minimalist, pretty but I felt a bit "locked in"
Mint has more text and a lot of it is an explanation or summary of what an app does. It really feels like it holds your hand and shows you the way. There is a "Welcome to Mint" app that opens /2

Automatically on Install that guides you through (it sets up automatic back-ups, makes sure everything is updated, shows you the settings, where to get programs ...). So once I played around a bit, I don't see why I would look elsewhere.

The fun thing is that you can try before installing ! You need to follow the normal installation steps (a usb key with program on it), and once you've opened whichever Linux distro you want to test, you can see how it's like and use the included programs /3

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Whitout having installed anything yet on your computer. So if you don't like it or want to test something else out first, you just leave, and if you want to keep going, you can click "install".

The installer will ask you if you want to install it alongside Windows, and will automatically make room for both. That way you can select "Windows" or "Linux" when you turn the PC on.

I've kept Windows for a specific game I couldn't get to run on Linux. As a complete beginner I didn't feel like /4

You can have them, You just gotta kill a few people, then you get sent to a slam, where they tell you you'll never see daylight again. You dig up a doctor, and you pay him 20 menthol Kools to do a surgical shine job on your eyeballs.

I remember reading they make it harder to see in bright light. Like it makes everything blurry. Animals usually have very specialized eyes. We may not be an exemplar in any one category but we're very good across basically all of them.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

All absolutely true, but counterpoint, it'd be really cool if our eyes shined in the dark.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's more terrifying not knowing how many people are looking at you from the darkness.

I can't really argue with that.
