Mont Vernon, NH. We used to party about 50 feet from this thing for decades. Had a great fire pit. Was down an old logging trail forever until very recently, some asshole built a housing complex right up to it. Cops never bothered us and wouldn't dare bring a cruiser down the old trail. Coukdnt hear us way out there anyway.

Yeah there was lots of clearcutting in New England throughout the 18th - 20th centuries. I used to attend a summer camp in Tuftonboro NH that got started in the 1910s and in old photographs from that time you could see clear to Mt. Washington, 40 miles north. By the time I went in the 80s you couldn't even see the nearby hills, the trees were so tall.

Most of New England was clear cut in the 19th century.
It's difficult to find trees in the region older than 150.

I've been told that if you're out in the woods out east, near older towns, and come across a stand of very old trees, it might be an overgrown cemetery, and keep an eye out for gravestones. Made sense, haven't ever put it to the test

There was a Dog Rock in Tennessee that had been damage gradually by white settlers then finally destroyed to make way for a railroad. The Native Peoples had known about the formation, probably for centuries.

Trees and dirt. Lots of trees and dirt. What a difference 135 years will make on the landscape. And the weathering on the frog rock looks very interesting as well.
