At 999 million they should just print out a paper award for “you’ve won capitalism!” And anything made above that is taxed at 100%

With of course meaningful tax brackets below that.

I remember when the ants were going to band together and fight back, but the grasshopper told them that it would ruin the economy and instead the ants started turning on one another while the grasshopper just got richer and richer.

There is no ethical way to become, or to stay, a billionaire.

What would you do to a person killing everyone else? Well, the top 100 polluters are a good place to start with that sentiment; they're killing everyone, so they should be killed first to protect the billions of us. Then anyone else who wants to live the way those top polluters did can be killed off next until nobody wants to live like them anymore. Then we move on to the economic cancer cells called corporations and repeat the process until we have world peace.

I don't care if people have millions of dollars. People can earn that much doing honest to god good work in the world. Nobody earned a billion dollars without exploitation though.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Late stage capitalism, and people now very slowly start to realize democracy is a farce, and we have been living in an oligarchy for a while now. Hell, already now most people on the planet in "democratic" countries are mere wage slaves for the ultra wealthy.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The difference between $1 million and $1 billion is roughly $1 billion.

2 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 0

That's the best way I've ever heard this notion expressed.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

The difference between 1 trillion and 6 million, to 4 or 5 significant figures, is 1 trillion.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

999 million

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

the entire conversation gets horribly skewed and falls off the rails because we still equate 'net worth' with actual, real, in-the-pocket money. I'm not saying "the system works", it clearly doesn't, but we really need to stop treating moon-money stock valuations as being actually *worth* anything.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What's the difference between a million and a billion: about a billion.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unpopular opinion for this place, but I really hate when people get angry at “millionaires.” A millionaire is any person who lived his life well and paid his mortgage, any lawyer or dentist or professional or successful entrepreneur. They are NOT the problem.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most people, myself included, have a hard time grappling with the scale numbers in the billions represent, much less trillions. Knock off some zeroes to get a better feel for the differences here, let's say, 6. A quick Google shows the median (not average) American net worth is a little under 200k. So:
Regular citizen => 0.20$
John Boyega, worth 6 million => 6$
Trillionaire Bezos => 1,000,000

In case anybody else was confusing Boyega and Bezos from being in the same wealth class lmao

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lol at the woman supposed wife or not who probably thinks she's be around when Bezos hits $1T she'll be gone this time next year.

Basically anyone who owns a hovel in my region is technically a millionaire. I look at 6 million and think "Yeah, that's like, ok money, but it probably wouldn't set you for life if you were in your 20s."

A million ain't what it used to be.

Now, billionaires though, those shouldn't exist. Net worth should be capped at $999,999,999

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1M seconds is 11 days, 1G sec is 11,5 years 1T sec is 32.786 years...

I do hope to read of his painful demise soon. Those who take that much more than their share are a leech on society, sucking its blood and causing stress.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's not a leech, it's a cancer.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

also isnt John Boyega's 6 million networth closer to the networth of a cockroach than John Boyega's networth is to Jeff Bezos?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you had one dollar, John Boyega's Six million is closer to your single dollar than to the wealth of Jeff Bezos.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Organise, unionise, and change the fucking tax codes.

2 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 0

THIS. I'm a millionaire. We give a lot to charity, support struggling friends and family, and press our legislators to replace regressive taxes like sales taxes with progressive wealth and income taxes. Nobody should *have* to be wealthy to have health, home, or security. Money should be *used,* and mostly to make the world a kinder place.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Thank you for doing your part to make the world a slightly better place than billionaire class using their obscene wealth to lobby the politicos to further protect that wealth.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm technically a millionaire because the average house in my city costs a million dollars, and I've spent 40 years working my way up that property ladder. We don't worry about money day to day, but we only have one car, our house is a fixer-upper, there's no way we could ever afford a boat or a cottage or the things I used to think it was normal for a millionaire to have. I'm not complaining, we're better off than most . But being a millionaire is definitely not what it was 30-40 years ago.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I wanna be a millionaire because I want to help people. I'll likely never be a millionaire because I want to help people.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The easiest way to solve the climate crisis is to kill off the top 100 polluters. Then the billionaires would spend huge to get off the kill list.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If we ate 1 billionaire a day it'd take nearly 8 years for there to be no more billionaires.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My net worth is north of a million because my house was so fucking expensive and I have a VA loan. I drive a 98 subaru outback.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Remember this one too: say you earn a dollar a second, day in day out.
You're a millionaire in about eleven days.
A billionaire takes about 31 years.
A trillionaire takes over 31,000 years, far longer than all of recorded human history.

2 years ago | Likes 284 Dislikes 1

I make my students do this exact math in my technical calculations college class. Remember, 1000 is one thousand 1's, and 1 million is one thousand 1000's, and 1 billion is one thousand 1 millions. For the listeners at home, figure out how long it would take you to save up $1000 in the bank, now do that 1000 more times and you've got your first million! CONGRATS! Now do that 1000 more times and you got your FIRST billion! AWESOME JOB! 1 thousand more times and you're Jeffy B! SOUL CRUSHING!

If you won every powerball drawing for 50 years, didn't split the pot or pay taxes, you'd still be worth less than Bezos.

2 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

I hate the "be worth" expression. We're not worth what finances we own.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you worked at today's minimum wage every day 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, since the dawn of the universe until today, you'd have earned $609 trillion.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

So for shits and giggles, I looked at the minimum wage entire universe lifetime to heatdeath (1.7e107) and got out an e118. That means, if we wanted to say the number out loud, we would have to use the 81,352nd 10^3 ordinal name (1: thousand, 2: million, 3: billion, 4: trillion, etc...)

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Okay my brainn broke

Ceil(E118 / 3) == 40th ordinal name.
So that would be quadragintilluon.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't care about millionaires and multimillionaires. Let's rid the world of billionaires+ first. See how things go from there

2 years ago | Likes 409 Dislikes 5

I think it's when they cross into the hundred millions is when things start getting truly repugnance. As with that kind of money, their family is set to no work for generations if they lived an average lifestyle. When it hits billions, they can live a lavish lifestyle for generations and never work. When it's trillions, they could have enough to start their own country by buying territory from other nations.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Guillotining will continue until the wages improve.

2 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 2

Ya gotta eat them though. That really sets the tone.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Or drinking them in a nice bubbly alcoholic beverage. Billionaire bubbly, if you will.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eh they are, and are full of, parasites. Dont want them to spread, safter to burn the remains.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, anyone worth less than 100 million isn't a threat to the world unless they're in the media simping for the billionaire class, legislating favourable laws for the billionaire class, or they're corrupt officials helping the billionaire class (SCOTUS, many cops, etc.)

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How much was the lumpy pillow guy was worth at his peak?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Guesstimates range from $100-300 million. Now he's basically bankrupt.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol what an idgit

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly the average dude would probably have a net worth of $1M+ if all the billionaires were taken care of. And even the median would probably be approaching it too. Especially if the billionaires' wealth was used for shit like education and housing

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

I think you need to redo the math on that for a couple of reasons. Redistributing a few trillion dollars would be a big deal, but it wouldn't make the average person a millionaire.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

$1M is a house in a nice suburb close to one of the expensive cities in America. A net worth of $6M isn't even enough to make someone part of the top 1% in terms of wealth.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I mean 3 years ago I bought a house for $365K in a nice suburb close enough for me to work in one of the most expensive cities in the country.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fair enough; I live in California so my sense for property values might be skewed.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The bay area is expensive enough I ended up leaving, but lots of major metro areas are full of $1M houses.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think we could throw hundred-millionaires in there. No one could possibly need more than that in their entire life.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No, I mean, what if they wanted to buy an island? and not like one of those piddly little islands that can hold a single resort, Maybe. I mean one that has a mountain or two. I think they should be able to have that, don't you? besides, I myself may one day be a multi-hundred millionaire. if that happens, you'll all be invited to my island. I'll have barbeq- we'll have seafood...

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lol, had me for a sec.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

meh, cut off can be argued after the billionaires are gone.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I feel like just keep removing the top 1% until things are better. There are nearly 3k billionaires, that'll take a bit to get through

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't start with the top 1%. It'll last longer and be way more effective if you start cutting slices off at the feet. Make sure to use a glowing hot blade, too, so they don't bleed out to fast.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The 1% will absorb what is lost from the millionaires and use it to dig in and fortify themselves

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Long pork!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imagine 999.999.999 being the max allowed, anything above needs to be donated to improve society or equally distributed within the company as bonuses.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

We can give billionaires a t-shirt with "I reached a billion [currency] and all I got was this t-shirt" as a participation trophy in human society. I mean, they clearly lost it.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This isn't a bad idea in principle, but it's hard to implement in practice because these guys don't actually have billions of dollars. At that level, their wealth is a little like a capitalist fable. AMZN swings back and forth on ViBeS, so taxing another $100M of Bezos' wealth when he hasn't actually accumulated any new assets ends up being a weird semantic exercise.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It would have to be done at the end of the tax year in some way, it wouldn't work day to day as you say those change massively.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even then, it gets pretty silly asking "what is the economic value of Amazon as a concept" and then concluding Jeff has that much money is weird and mostly wrong. It's why wealth taxes usually keep it to 1-3%.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tax them at 60% anything over 250.000 a year, in every country they make 250k or more

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They'll find ways to go around that, like being paid in mansions.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

We tax mansions, to be fair.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That value is in cash and assets tho'

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

6 million U.S. dollars is barely “rich” anymore. A safe retirement fund is generally considered to be close to 2 million usd according to the self help finance books I’ve tried to follow. So he can retire now and live it up *a little* for the rest of his life. It’s definitely not ‘buy a new mansion with staff every year for the rest of time’ money. 6mil is not even ‘buy a new car every year for the rest of his life’ money.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

For the "black people with money should shut up and be grateful" crowd, I'm sure $6M seems equivalent to $1T

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ouch. That’s probably part of the perspective there.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, 6 mil is still in the range of "probably knows what its like to have mortgage payments"

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Chris Rock had a bit- "Shaquille O'Neal is rich- the man who writes his checks is wealthy"

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How can we stop this?

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

At this point? The ultra rich are so rich that society is probably going to need to be completely dismantled, money become completely meaningless and we start over. Because actually voting/changing/unionizing/organizing doesn't do anything except get those of us brave enough to do so, killed and nothing's changing. It's just getting harder. It's going to get harder until something snaps

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Amazon needs to be split up.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

time travel to the 80s and make some drastic changes

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Let me introduce you to a company named Standard Oil. The government decided that it was time to split it and they did. That's how you break a monopoly. Just start killing mega corporations and turn them into...corporations. Increases competition, which is good for everyone.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

The people who owned Standard Oil got large shares of all the breakout companies and became even richer

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To big To Fail means To Many Eggs in One Basket, Time to Split it Up

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Actually the correct moment to split a corporation is when it becomes a burden. When a corporation starts to extract from the country more than it gives back, it is no longer in the nation's interest. Government exists to protect those interests, so time to start cutting!

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not sure I can agree. How would you define the burden? What currency do you assign giving back? Do some services provided rank more than others? Many currently argue that oil companies are providing more value to the economy than it gets in subsidies by providing energy to the economy. I don't agree, but that's where we're at now.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yup. I’ve had this conversation so many times. People think millionaire=bad when $1m doesn’t even guarantee a decent retirement. Some people also think that making 100k makes you “rich”. Propaganda is causing class warfare. The real problem is the institutionally wealthy. They don’t have income like us working people do.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Except the billionaires people point at aren't "institutionlly wealthy." They created companies that created or changed entire industries, and their net worth is merely a reflection of their company's value. When you actually look into, for instance, the people blocking universal healthcare it *isn't* billionaires, it's millionaires, doctors, hospitals, etc. The problem is that *Industry* has too much power, not individual billionaires. That is Exxon-Mobil

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is far more of a problem than Bezos even though their CEO isn't a billionaire.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Individual billionaires can afford to influence policy that directly benefits them. Individually they mean little, but their social engineering campaigns influence the electorate to vote for people that further their goals. Individual millionaires ($1-2M can’t really do that). The upstart billionaires may not be old-money, but they wield influence similarly. When I refer to them as institutionally wealthy, I’m referring to the fact that they have sufficient wealth to invest in securities

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

at large enough scale to receive preferential treatment. They do not trade like retail investors, it’s more like hedge funds, etc.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not saying they lack influence. Blaming everything on billionaires is basically the same thing as blaming it on "globalists" who "control all the wealth." It's a way to keep you from looking at the real problems, like government allowing lobbies so much influence in the first place.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
