I was born with two genetic mutations and a physical deformity. My foot is not fully connected to my leg. I do not qualify as disabled and receive no assistance in any form.
Anything but universal healthcare is a systemic murder plot.

Been this way most of my life. I'm disabled. I literally can't have more than 2k in my possession, or the feds can stop all payments and all medical insurance. This includes my partner's wealth if we ever get married (so we can't). Think about how well you'd survive at under 2k at all times (including time to pay rent!)

You forgot the best part, your disability gets reduced by the amount of your take home pay. So you can't even get ahead by working.

I can absolutely relate to how you feel. I get $700/mo from the provincial government. They refused my disability (Autism, ADHD, CPTSD) benefits applications so I am on welfare essentially. It's not worth getting federal benefits because the province will claw them back along with any external income. At least my medication is covered.

My hubby has ALS. When he stops working and is "equipped" to not need me 24/7, I will go back to work to bring in money. We will probably have to divorce so he can receive as many benefits as possible. We will not likely "marry" in our own way right after the papers are signed. We will be married in our souls. But that shouldn't be the case. It's despicable

WELL under the poverty line. My wife and I are both on disability. Besides the benefit of having Medicaid insurance, our checks are about $1,000 each, per month! If we didn't have a third person in our tiny little ghetto apartment, we wouldn't even be making it as well as we are. Disability pay is criminally low. And the people who think we're living high on the hog because of those checks are completely unaware of how much disabled people actually get per month.

60~70% of SSDI claims are immediately rejected. A friend of mine and fellow veteran with debilitating daily seizures due to a service connected head injury was deemed well enough to work because during a re-exam he said he was able to cook food for himself. Caveat is I am the one grabbing the groceries. I've known this guy for several years now, he visually recognizes me, but I have to tell him my name every time we meet. I helped write his appeal and 10 months later "oops, our bad".

I’m kept at 135% below the poverty line. Not just 10% or 50% but ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY FIVE PERCENT. And if I was in a relationship, and we lived together, but we weren’t married, their income counts against me and I lose some or all of that money. And if we get married forget it. So I’m not allowed to get married or even cohabitate without it becoming a problem. And it’s not even the money that worries me the most it’s that I’d also lose Medicaid and I can’t afford Medicare advantage premiums

How is 135% below the poverty line meant to work? 100% below the poverty line is zero, anything beyond that would mean you pay an extra 35% every month for the privilege to have less than zero?

The nearest I can find on Google is sometimes Medicare is capped at about 135% of the Federal Poverty Level, so 35% above. I don't understand what "135% below" could mean otherwise.

And the jobs that can't deserve to be compensated thusly of course. I don't mind medical professionals making a fuckload more than pretty much anyone else. That is a high stress, high skill, and time intensive job with lives at stake. Yeah the rest of their life should be cushy. But it should not be so much money that it takes from others like the techbros and oligarchs and shareholders. They ain't earning that money they are looting it.

I don't think 1984 is mocking evil, or if it is I don't think it's doing a very good job of it. Fascists definitely like it when we talk about them in scary terms, but I think mockery is actually the best way to attack them.
