Agreed. It was perfectly normal for Dipper to have a crush on Wendy, but him realizing that it can't work and moving on was an important part of his growth as a character. Trying to make it happen regardless kinda invalidates his development.
Plus, Dipper's dynamic with Pacifica is more interesting, and I wish we'd seen more of it.

There is canonically a two year age gap between them. Wendy's just tall. And Dipper very much isn't.

Two years matter a lot a that age. And while I agree that as both get older a two year gap would be nothing... I think the fact that they knew each other at that age makes it weird and awkward. Like, a 10 year gap between someone who is 50 and someone who is 40 isn't that big a deal. But if they knew each other back when one was 20 and the other 10... It feels different. Get what I mean? Like... the age difference matters less as both get older, but the established age gap remains?

You gotta have some nuance here. Nothing inappropriate happened between Dipper and Wendy, either in the show or in this comic. They explored awkward teen crushes, which is a real thing, and they resolved it by saying "nah."

When two children have feelings for each other, the best practice is to shun them and not be supportive at all while they explore emotions that are new for them, clearly. This is about using nostalgia of when crushes were innocent and delightful to remind the reader of better times while letting them identify with the characters.
