I heard an interview with Jim Henson today and realized Kermit's voice is just Jim's voice slightly exaggerated, rather than a fully invented voice. I still laugh at when I introduced my children to Star Wars and my son asked why Yoda sounds like Cookie Monster.

That's partially true and partially a joke. So it was said that the reason Muppet Christmas Carol was so magical was because Michael took the roll seriously and treated all thr muppets like actors. Then the fans added the part with Tim Curry and Muppet Treasure Island because Tim is a wacky doof of a human being that loves to have as much fun as he can on set.

I'd heard that too. Regarding Christmas Carol, that was apparently straight from the horse's mouth. Michael Caine told Henson: "I'm going to play this movie like I'm working with the Royal Shakespeare Company. I will never wink, I will never do anything Muppety. I am going to play Scrooge as if it is an utterly dramatic role and there are no puppets around me."
