The most banned books are the ones read the least by the people who ban them. I remember when pseudo-"Christians" down here in the South were banning Harry Potter for "promoting witchcraft." These cunts go to church and clap their hands, say "praise Jesus," but never read the Bible and actually think witchcraft is real.

I'm in Western NY & I can't argue against that, but still a very very small minority. Our attempts to fully legalize marijuana have been ridiculous & held up by lazy stupidity, so I guess I'm not surprised, just disappointed.

Apparently there are "sexually explicit" parts in her books, maybe more than parents want their kids to find in a school library? Also, lists like this are so basic and lacking information that it's misleading. In at least one case I could find these "banned" books were merely kept in a restricted area of a single school districts libraries due to concerns about the content, and could still be accessed by teens with a parents permission.

I looked up the 2nd on in the list and will probably be buying it later because I could see myself at 12 absolutely loving that book and I hate that some kids won't have that chance now. The story of being an underdog, growing up with bullies and insecurities resulting from that bullying, not quite being sure of your looks and appearances...that's a story that would make a lot of kids feel less alone.

I was surprised to see California had some banned books. I looked it up and as far as I could tell they are Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, Theodore Taylor's The Cay and Mildred D. Taylor's Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.

Yeah from what I have seen, it's from very small rural school districts and they've already been told by the state that if they don't unban the books and cut it out, they lose all of their funding. That might have just been the Social Studies book that removed mention of Harvey Milk though.

To play devils advocate, this is the colour spectrum of Heatmap variation (which typically uses very few colour scales). I personally have never been a fan of that colour model because when using it for basically anything outside of temperature it gets confusing or looks bad.

I think the colors are fine the way they are. Black is sometimes used for the most severe. In triage, for example, black tags are used for victims who are dead or will be dead regardless of care, and some jurisdictions use black for the highest level of fire risk.

No idea what's up with NJ, but the Eastern Shore is that way because they made the state borders way too wide, so the Eastern Shore part of Virginia looks like an island cut off from the Maryland part of the peninsula. And also they forgot to color it the same as VA. And color Long Island the same as NY.
