This is one of those skills that I’m positive I can do because all I have to do is exactly what he just did and it’ll look exactly the same, maybe even better and then there is molten hot glass all over the studio and I’m sitting in an UrgentCare with Mt. Vesuvius burns on my face and hands.
I typically don't like all of the extra stem on these but this is so well done that I think it must be what the others are trying for. It's the style of these. But if you think about it, the stem isn't really the curly parts irl
Fun fact, the glasses aren't because they're cool guys. The hot glass gives off some pretty intense infrared radiation which can literally give your eyeballs what amounts to a sunburn.
I've had sunburn on my eyes from arc welding without a helmet. Your eyes get real gritty feeling like they're raw as hell and for the next day and a half or so they're goopy as shit and crust over when you sleep like you've got pink eye.
My brothers had or have paintings made by him. They helped him when he was working in Finland for his Venice art pieces in rhe 90s. I met the guy too apparently but I was like 7 at the time so don't recall it well.
Nothing. The glass could barely get up the tube before it cooled to solid, and the air is also cool by the time it gets to you. There are all kinds of things you can make by blowing a glass bubble and then sucking to collapse it.
But if you managed to inhale 2000 degree air you’d instantly burn the shit out of the inside of your lungs and would have a really shitty time if you didn’t die right away

"I'm pulling it to get the right thickness" --- me too, dude.

You know how some people have a soothing voice, almost made for narration? This is not that guy

Fr I thought Matt Murdock was blind-sculpting a glass cock

Who knew Matthew Murdock was a glass worker

Thank you, I really enjoyed your video. A true craftsman

That stem seems a bit extra, but glasswork like this is always so neat to watch. It's like magic sometimes - blob to neat thing!

But they are still cool guys.

Is it similar to arc eye from welding?
IliveIdyeIliveagain
catherinecc
Also they filter out the sodium flare so you can actually see what you're doing. Good example here

So what happens if you accidentally inhale a little instead of exhaling into the tube? Just die?
IliveIdyeIliveagain
Died by choking I assume

I always thought it would be a cool hobby to get into so good to know I won't die if I space out for a second 😅
theskepticinme
it wouldn’t be easy to do by accident. The glass moves slowly and it would be hard to deform it by inhaling.
theskepticinme

That's not how physics works
bokodasu
The pipe is too long and too metal for it to be hot when it gets to you.
Camelspotting
Sounds like a cool hobby but that would be me with the popcorn lungs for sure 😅
