Some are but if you look at the popular desires of the people it's much more progressive than conservative but votes are being rigged to maintain that power which is why some loose their faith that voting even matters if they are cheating their way out of recognizing the changes people are actually supporting. That and conservatives being so aggressive and loud to appear to have much more support than they actually do. I'm not saying voting is pointless, but there are real reasons some doubt it.

Luckily, I'm in Australia, a land where nicknames are so ubiquitous that I have friends who I've known for years without knowing their actual given names. My mother didn't learn her own first name until she was 13 years old
