Honoring a pact

In the 8th grade, my best friend and I made a pact to be the best man at each other's wedding when the time came. We're both almost 30 now and have gone our separate ways through life, but still stay in touch - despite living on other sides of the planet. I was walking through Sydney, Australia when my cell rang, and I'm sure you can guess who it was. My mate was asking to cash in on our pact! So this is how I spent my afternoon. Sitting on the beach in Canada drinking a delicious beer, and writing my speech.
I've never been to a wedding, nor have I been a best man, and I hate public speaking, especially when it's in front of hundreds of people... but I'll be damned if I let this man down.

We have good beer here. It'll help.

"Brevity is the soul of wit." No inside jokes. Nothing about other women. It helps to know them as a couple. Remember, it's not really a 1/2

speech, it's a toast to the couple and their future. Everyone just wants to raise their glasses and eat. Good luck!

Bring up that trip to Mexico with the.... well, I guess they were prostitutes but I don't remember paying.

Fuck it up intentionally. So everyone's gonna remember it.

That's true. The o my one I remember was a Beat Man who seemed in love with the groom and a MoH who described the bride as an idiot.

If there's anything you can do... DONT just try & wing it. That's the worst thing you can do.

Advice: the people you need to impress already have faith in you, so just let it come from the heart.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think you just wrote the opener...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm happy for you, you can do it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly, that paragraph right there seems like an excellent opener to a best man speech. Cheers to you and your friend.

But not Same?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is a long speech.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Theres an easy recipe for a great speech. Think of quality over quantity. Talk about your history with the groom, and why he chose you (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 455 Dislikes 3

Lol all this advice that he didn't ask for

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Maybe throw in a joke but keep it light. But most important is compliment the bride. Finish with a toast to many years of happiness!

Just do Sherlocks best man speech. It was killer.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

dig up a bit of light hearted cheeky shit about the groom but don't write a saga!

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Thank everyone for being there and thank the wife's parents and complement the bride for wonderful of a person they have raised.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah don't talk about yourself. Talk about your friendship with the groom and the kind of man you know him to be.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Best advice I was given was to remember it's not about you and speak from the heart.

9 years ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 0

I specifically don't bring up embarrassing stories about the both of us for this very reason. Focus on why he's a solid guy.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A lot of best men talk about the stag night and never compliment the bride

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

1/Truth. W so much going on it completely slipped my mind I had to give a speech as maid of honor until they announced the speeches @ dinner

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

2/but since the bride & I grew up together it was easy to make it up on the spot. Tears, laughter, a lot of aaws; I'm still proud of it

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Drink additional beers before speech.

9 years ago | Likes 894 Dislikes 5

He'd start talking about his embarassing past and girls they met!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*during

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, drink that perfect number of beers where you hit every beer pong shot, bags hole, kan jam slot, bucket around the world, nail on the 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

2/2 the head, and every thing you says is funny. That many beers, become the most interesting man in the world. For honor.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Compile your toast sheerly out of imgur specific memes.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is that a shitty rocky Vancouver beach, I see?

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Steamworks tipped me off!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Based on the fact that the post mentions he lives in Sydney, Australia...I'm gonna say no

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 11

He also says he's sitting on a beach in Canada...

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

And also it's Steamworks beer, which is brewed in Vancouver

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well. Now I feel like an idiot.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

It's already surprising that a moose with a cunt can type. Don't be so hard on yourself.
