Because they needed to hold their noses and stop a known fascist from taking power. They didn't stop a genocide, they helped elect the man who has made it the worst it could possibly be, as well as install a murderous secret police and possibly do irreparable damage to the rule of law. They didn't help elect anyone. People withholding votes over Palestine didn't impact the last election but it may still impact the next. They aren't complicit for shit because it wasn't their protest that got Trump elected, at all. We, on the other hand, who ticked the box next to Harris' name are complicit. They didn't skip it, though. They ran the primary and Biden won, then a bunch of talking heads and political consultants pressured him to withdraw because he was going to lose because he was "too old".
There wasn't anywhere near enough time to run *another* primary after that. Even if they'd had enough time, no one would've run against Harris for the exact same reason no one ran against Biden.

They very famously very nearly ran out of time to submit Biden to some of the states to put him on the ballot after the first primary. It was national news. I don't think you fully understand or appreciate the amount of time it takes to run a primary.
