Ok, yes, but asterisk. The reason Japan's murder rate is so low is that they don't charge murder unless it is a lead-pipe cinch. Anything that's even slightly uncertain gets labeled as something else. That's also why their rate of successful prosecutions for murder is so high.

Wait till you see the stats on prisoners. US had 1,808,100 adult inmates in 2022, Japan had 41,541 inmates in 2022. These figures don’t take into account pretrial imprisonment.
In 2007, 1 in 31 Americans were in some sort of correction supervision including jails, probation/parole and prison.

Japans prisons are pretty awful though, even by american standards. And their legal system has a lot of problems. It's not all rainbows and unicorns.

Evangelical Christians often DO have a lot of problems, but the problem of "must save everyone's soul so our god doesn't torture them eternally" is a so much BIGGER problem that it is, ironically, a source of comfort to them. Because their problems simply pale in comparison to such a vast atrocity. If you ignore all your own problems because Jesus has made you responsible for literally saving everyone you meet from His Wrath, everything will work out on its own somehow! :D

I think the difference between Japanese Christianity and American Christianity is that Japanese Christianity makes them better Japanese people.
i.e. love your neighbor as yourself - put pride in your work - help those that you can - and other core values.

What we really need is a lawyer willing to take on 'Parent Rights' laws on the basis that it actually removes a child's 'freedom of religion'. But it is hard to represent this group and as there is no way for a child to contact and pay the lawyers in this case. Additionally, because a contract is usually needed, they need their guardians to sign it.

These statistics can be misleading. Japan has TONS of unreported homelessness because of stigma it has. You're homeless, but not on paper etc...
This is true fir many other issues in Japan as well.
It's not that amazing of a place that people make it out to be.

That number unreported still won’t take it to the ridiculous levels of homelessness in USA. I’m disappointed they didn’t do a comparison of incarcerated populations as well. US has been trumping that for a long time

If you'd read about the guy who spent multiple decades on death row in Japan, for a murder he didn't commit, and the prosecutors knew it, but framed him anyway, so they could show they'd caught somebody, you wouldn't talk such nonsense. Just because the USA is a disaster does *NOT* mean that Japan is amazing.

While "per centum" does translate to "by the hundred," percent expresses a ratio of one unit of a data set broken into 100 units. If 100 represents the total number of units counted in the data set and the total population in that data set is 100k, then a percentage of 100k is 1 part of 100k divided into 100 units or 1000 people. So, in this case, 5.7% per 100k is ~ 5700 or ~ 7.07 million Japanese Christians out of a population of a little more than 123 million.

To me that'd only make sense if you used "of" instead of "per". And then none of the populations is actually close to 100k so "per 100k" is actually just dead (and confusing) text. By the numbers looked up by others show your interpretation is probably wrong, too.

Also you seem to be using the US homicide rate (as a percentage, ie amplified by 1000) as the fraction of the Japanese population who are christian? From the post it's 1.5% or about 1.85M given that population number.
