I defend the flags and the parades, when people say 'why's there no straight parade?" I say you can organize and apply and fund one if you want, just like they did,
When they say "well what about veterans?" I say they fought so we have this freedom, and no veteran was ever harassed, bullied, beat up, or murdered just because they were a veteran.
But I can't defend the dudes walking around with their dicks out, because it's pride, if you can't have your dick out at pizza hut in November, you shouldn't be able to have it out on the street in June.
We have to be against the double standards, cause the other side loves to milk this one point, they dismiss the whole thing because of this, calling them pervs and peds,
Equality needs to remain equal, that's all I got, thanks
redsmerf
"What about veterans?" Well, what the fuck do you think Veteran's Day is for? Also, pretty sure May is Military Appreciation month

What about for Harambe?

Really? Then don't look.

It's because conservatives will say "look at that, let's ban it all"
eion85
The Conservatives want to kill me for being gay. They want to void my marriage. They want to torture my trans comrades. They want to kidnap the kids of my queer friends who are parents.
Maybe we don't do things simply in a futile attempt to placate them?

Yeah thats part of the whole Kink at Pride debate. People for kink at pride fail realise that Pride evovled from the 80s and 90s and shouldnt be antagonistic like in the past as society as a whole accepts queer people. Pride now (and should be) is celebration of queer culture that is outward not offerensive to normies and kid friendily 1.) because that is how you fight intorence is teaching kids 2.)queer kids are the ones the need that some type of support network more than any other age bracket
sometimesarobot
Kink is WHAT you do, Pride is WHO you do. There's a difference.
kingbudo101
Big day time pride events and festivals should be family friendily. That means no Kink. Save that for all the night time events at bars and clubs
JohnWickdidnothingwrong
Never seen a dick or pussy out at a parade.
Real near one occasionally, but nothing to the degree that this person is going on about.
eion85
Exactly what pride events are you seeing where this is a regular occurrence, and are they happening in places where this is illegal?
kingbudo101
Iv been to a few events and does happen. One time saw dude give another a blowy on side ally during an event.
eion85
Without knowing the year and location it's impossible to know if what you saw was actually illegal.
kingbudo101
massachusetts and blowie was two years ago. I do see naked people every year though
eion85
Public Nudity at permitted events that doesn't involve sexual conduct is permitted under Massachusetts law.
Pride is about sexual liberation, so don't go if you don't want to risk seeing ANY sexual acts. Definitely not a sign the organizers are promoting sex in public.
eion85
(not saying "you" to mean you specifically)
Slinkthecat
Dicks out, Vajayjay on displayplay.
GuapoGuayaba
I think the Seattle laws are fine, nudity is legal, but it must be non-lewd. There is a public nude beach, naked solstice bike parade, and Pride outside of Broadway and Pike (where most of the cities gay bars are) is kid friendly, though body positive. I think not having criminalized nudity is also helpful for assisting homeless folks, in that they won’t be charged with a crime for being exposed so they can get help instead of incarceration.
BeastofKnowledge
If you think "kid friendly" and "nudity" can exist in the same sentence you have an issue.
If public nudity is legal than exposing yourself to children is legal, because children exist in the public. That's why its supposed to be confined to private areas like those aforementioned beaches because we can make sure its controlled. The laws are not fine. If you flash your junk at kids you go to jail, no one cares if your on a bike and wearing rainbows, you should still go to jail.
GuapoGuayaba
“Flashing your junk” falls into the criteria of “lewd” and is correctly punishable under the law
BeastofKnowledge
If your junk is not in any form of clothing and is exposed in anyway that a child can see it, that's "flashing your junk". The very act of being nude is in itself "lewd".
So ever single person riding their bike naked in public, should go to jail. Because that's how it works in a sane society.
Again the manner of your naked exposure is irrelevant, it doesn't matter if your riding a bike or actively swinging your dick around, your naked, your in public, children exist there, your going to jail
GuapoGuayaba
So breastfeeding and Mardi Gras should be treated the same? One is expressly lewd exposure of breasts and one is not. Intention and context matter. Should we slap a censor bar across the Statue Of David or the Sistine Chapel? Public bathhouses and saunas exist around the world where naked strangers are around children. I would worry more about my child’s wellbeing around pastors and priests than at a Pride event.
BeastofKnowledge
If a child can see your genitals, you should go to jail. Simple as. How they are presented is irrelevant. “Lewd” is a subjective term. What’s not subjective is that if you expose yourself in public, you are also invariably exposing yourself to children, and you should go to jail for that. The fact that you’re trying to conflate breast-feeding and fine art with that it’s just impressive levels of cope.
twerps
What if it was a gay veteran with their dick out in November?

"why can we have our dicks out for harambee but not for pride?" Lol bruh dofh is a meme, we don't really have our dicks out.
Not sure why it's an unpopular opinion to keep ones pants on in public when the topic is pride.
Not just anyone is entitled to see my mighty whacker!
andexer
You don't actually literally for-realsies have your dick out for Harambe?! Sacrilege! Blasphemer! Falso apostle! Shun shun shun
Tarmaccian
Ok, let’s ask a different question. Why don’t we have it all out other times?
We’re animals. Animals fuck. Why do we act like there some moral need to hide away our nature? Why is it only acceptable to show hetero couples kissing, flirting, and living happily with their 2.4-kid average American lives?
And that’s the point.
Pride challenges the idea of what is “normal” in our society. It celebrates being authentic about sexuality, in contrast to being repressed for so much of human history.
vicvalour
Cause we crawled out of a pond and started wearing pants, I get your point, but we evolved into a society that said dicks out in April is not ok
Kotarisu
Bah, down with pants!
DarthVaderDidNothingWrong
Just pointing out that a lot of very undesirable things are natural for us and other animals. Rape, theft, murder, infanticide etc etc are very normal things that happen in nature all the time.
Tarmaccian
Of course, but are they _wrong_?
Well… yes.
But we _can_ talk about it. We can debate “spousal privilege”, taxes, death penalties, and abortion. We can talk openly about the harm they may cause to society, and weigh it against any benefits.
We don’t with sex, though. Anything sex-related is whispered behind closed doors, left for parents to pass to their children, with only the minimal biology in sex ed classes. It’s fertile ground for prejudice, and that has to change for full LGBT equality.
DarthVaderDidNothingWrong
Agreed. Although I don't think it's as prude here in Germany.
somethingcleverlol
heres the thing, you can show gay couples kissing, flirting, and living happily. Thats not the problem here. Its the nudity and display of kink thats the problem. It makes events where you should want parents bring their kids to to something they want to avoid. Which isnts something you want to do if you are trying to change society.
Corrodias
Both are valid opinions, and I'm glad to see this discussion, so I'm upvoting well-articulated comments on both sides of this.
GravyEducation
Counterpoint and/or devils advocate, maybe they *are* trying to change society by making nudity not anathema. Plenty of cultures around the world do perfectly fine preparing kids to understand that being naked can be fine. Sex acts in public, no, nudity, okay. If you think it's wrong it's because society has taught generations before you that it's wrong. Clothes because of modesty came after clothes because of elemental protection

for all the complaints about pride parades, I was let down with how tame the ones I went to were. where are all the leather daddies and near naked glitter twinks? the most dick you'll see is a balloon animal.
kingbudo101
The large day time events are being tamed down. Which is largely good thing. You do catch some stuff here and there
gayvillian
Never seen a naked person at pride. This sounds like republican attempts to sexualize pride.
I have seen naked people at naked bike rides which were not affiliated with a sexuality...
bippityboppitybuttsex
Clearly you have not seen the documentary, Rambo: First Blood.... (/s)
That being said, Pride Parades are not for children... the sexual nature of the people is what was being repressed, and it is what is being celebrated
kingbudo101
Pride events should be family friendily though. Ultimately its about love, Loving anyone, and being true to yourself. That doesnt have to be sexual in nature.
bippityboppitybuttsex
What was being repressed, what was unlawful, why were John Geddes Lawrence Jr. and Tyron Garner arrested in Texas? They were arrested for being adults who were having consensual sex.
How many adult heterosexuals are arrested for having sex?
kingbudo101
really dont care about your whataboutism. we are talking about if Pride events should be family friendily or not. Which they should
bippityboppitybuttsex
Where did I use a 'whataboutism'?
I am reminding you how long it has taken and how hard it was fought and this is not the time to self-repress.
kingbudo101
"what was unlawful, why were John Geddes Lawrence Jr. and Tyron Garner arrested in Texas" that is a whataboutism and irrevent to if Pride events should be family friendily or not
vicvalour
Dissagree, it isn't a private event, it's a public event, in the middle of the day, on main Street, it literally is for everybody, that's the inclusion part, and if it's not for children, then they shouldn't be allowed,
eion85
"Babies can't eat steak. We should ban steak to protect babies."
bippityboppitybuttsex
It isn't a private event, but it is well announced, it is well advertised... I would argue they see less sex and violence at a Pride Event than they would at a St. Patrick's Day Parade.
A reminder that the Pride event is celebrating an act of violence; when gay and transgender people refused to be bullied by the NYPD.... carrying a brick is traditional.
eion85
Related: The Folsom Street Fair is a public event. Legally they cannot prevent you from taking your kids inside, but the organizers will do their best to tell you out of it.
If you ignore them, not their fucking fault your kindergartner saw some stuff.
Celebrating kink & sexual liberation at Pride is an act of rebellion against a culture & political class that wants to exterminate us.
I did not survive that & come out to be a heteronormative asshole at OUR Pride.
bippityboppitybuttsex
Yeah, my guess is the people offended are straight and only grudgingly accept hat the LGBTQ+ community exists. I am convinced this post is actually just anti-gay rhetoric wrapped up in fake pride (and not even really, they are just sort of ok with Pride, as long as it conforms to their idea of it)
eion85
Very "I don't hate queer people, but why do they have to make it their whole personality and shove it in your face?" Energy
And then the other guy who I've blocked saying Kink doesn't belong at Pride because Pride has "evolved and needs to be attractive to families of allies" which is heteronormative bullshit that licks the boots of the corpos who have corrupted Pride.
This kind of crap happens every June, like clockwork.

I’ve been to several pride parades and even marched in one. Seen some butts, boobs and questionable outfits, but never saw a single “dick or vagaga”.

Two years ago at a pride parade in my community college several dicks came wagging out. Upset a lot of people who would have been allies, but now petitioned against the parade happening at the college, since we have high school aged kids there. They won the fight since minors are present. I am 100% an ally but agree with OP, have a little restraint or at the very least, know the crowd
horsetuna
I saw a few topless ladies last year, but it's actually a constitutional right here in canada (I think the term is constitutional for us. You get what I mean thought)
bippityboppitybuttsex
The vagagas are the best part.... I have absolutely seen dick at NYC and Chicago Pride... I saw a dude get fisted in the middle of Halsted a few years ago... (they were in a crowd and not visible from the sidewalk...)

Been to a couple in San Francisco. It seemed like clothing was more of a suggestion than requirement. Maybe it's different in other states, but there were sooo many wieners flopping around.
eion85
San Francisco's public indecency laws have exception for city-permitted parades & festivals, straight and queer.
Nothing legallly stopping the anti-abortion march held in Frisco in January from being all nude.
kingbudo101
okay but just because its legal doesnt mean its not a problem. you get that right? Queer acceptance is at the point where you want pride festivels, especially during the day, to be family friendily and you want normies to want to attend. For that to happen, you really cant have people in the nude or kink. Doesnt matter if its legal to be nude or not
eion85
Congrats on being the first person during Pride month this year I get to share this comic with.

Pride is about sexual liberation. If you don't want to see sexual acts, don't go to Pride.

kingbudo101
And congratulations on having the wrong opinion. Pride has evolved over time. Having big day time events be family friendly is important on fighting intolerance as well its good to give queer and questioning kids an outlet to express themselves. You cant do that when theres nudity and kink at pride. Save it for night events at bars and clubs.
InspiringBadger
San Francisco has rather generous rules about public nudity in general.
Exyr
Was it pride or the Folsom street fair? Because there's a huge difference. And I think a lot of people think Folsom street fair is some sort of pride event.
kodancommander
This was many years ago and I was just along for the ride, so my memory's a little fuzzy. I recall something about the Castro district being the location for one of them, if that helps.

Castro Street Fair perhaps, first Sunday in October.

"No veteran was harassed..." Coming home from Vietnam, they absolutely were. Drafted soldiers who never wanted to be there in the first place, who may have committed no crimes, were still lumped in with war criminals and psychopaths alike because the public saw the footage of what some did.
Not saying your point is invalid, just saying the way you make it has flaws.
filiuspelei
I agree. I think the more opperative point is that we do hae veterns day, and there are vetern day parades across the country
vicvalour
Well, I'm sure you're correct, I can understand people being against veterans of wars they were against, buy no where to the degree of getting beat up in highschool for joining drama club or having an earing
TheMoonBnuuy
There's a long standing cultural story of Vietnam vets being spat on by protestors and called "baby killer" however there are no recorded contemporary news stories about that happening, be it radio, tv, or paper. However, all claims that it did *not* happen are from blogs or vlogs, not anything academic or rigorously researched as far as I can tell.
1/2
TheMoonBnuuy
2/2
The general consensus among historians seems to be "harrassment did happen, but it wasn't a wide spread pattern, just isolated incidents. Also, the lack of any real proof of a pattern of the vets being welcomed home points toward a cool, if not cold reception. So whether they were spat on or not, there was neither a pattern of them being warmly welcomed home, nor were they attacked, and the only real pattern was the vets being unable to find decent jobs or apartments.
F224ever
As an Iraqi Freedom veteran, I have personally been called a “baby killer” and been spat on. It’s not just Vietnam vets. And what’s the point of going public or making a news story out of it? To embarrass an asshole? Who cares?
InternationalNitWit
This is an uninformed opinion. Many veitnam veterans were socially ostracized and unable to find mental health support or jobs. Many veterans became homeless as a result of instability and cultural indifference to their situation being forced to fight in a war they wanted no part of. The toll of fighting veitcong and returning to no life prospects left many in a far worse state than being beat up in high school.
vicvalour
And that's really bad, and a lot of gay kids were beat up or killed, I'm supporting the vets too
InternationalNitWit
I completely agree! I support gay folks as well.
I think people should help each other out when they and where they can. Many people suffer, and no ones suffering is any more or less deserving of empathy. But the impact of the original point you are trying to make is lessened by conflating it with veteran issues. Im sorry if people have tried to make the point that either is more important than the other.
Corrodias
Yeah, you'll just have to accept that you were wrong about this one thing. But the rest of your post is still fine and a valid opinion, if not universally agreed upon.
TheMoonBnuuy
Bullying is wrong period. It doesn't matter if it's against a black person, a white person, a Jew, a Christian, a Muslim, or an atheist. It doesn't matter if it's against a straight person, a gay person, a cis person, or a trans person. It doesn't matter if it's because they're a veteran, or an anti-war protestor. It doesn't matter if it's because they're left wing or right wing. It doesn't matter if it's physical or merely verbal.
Bullying 👏 Is 👏 Wrong 👏
MCNewYorkLives
I mean, sure. I would put money down that lgbt have experienced "worse forms of bullying" compared to vets...but like, why are we turning it into a competition? To play it like "the trauma vets experience aren't as bad as lgbt community, therefore they don't deserve a parade" is pretty bad.
If anything, the comment should have been "we DO celebrate vets. A lot, especially now."
Also, the "they don't get bullied" would've been better placed when explaining why white people SHOULDNT get a parade
vicvalour
I wasn't trying to turn it into an anti vet thing, it's just when I see anti pride crap on FB one of the biggest comments is "what about vets" that's why I included that part
MCNewYorkLives
No, yea. I get it. And wasn't saying that's what you meant, but just pointing out that's how it can be interpreted.
I mean, as the other guy pointed out, vets DO have a history of being "bullied" and treated poorly after Vietnam. And even now, they are constantly being shafted, developing PTSD while the government refuses to provide any sort of care and constantly giving them the middle finger, all while the public feel like they do enough to give them a day of a free side of pancakes.
vicvalour
Hey, I'm for vets being treated like heros, and everyone else being treated as equals
MCNewYorkLives
Like I said, it just comes off as being insensitive to vets using that argument. Like I said, you could easily have pointed out that they have their own days, their own parades, and are often given spots in any other parade. Thanksgiving? There's a spot. Halloween? There's a spot.
