I attended a Finnish university for my masters degree. The cafeteria food is simple, healthy, and filling. I sometimes got Pima instead of milk, along with water. There was always salad, as well as different breads with butter and other spreads. My favourite was herring casserole. The shredded carrots make them easier to eat in my opinion. The Finns have a deep love for potatoes. Here in the US, the potatoes are mealy and tasteless to me now.

They sure are hyping up the standard school food. I know those potatoes. They are not perfect in any way, bought pre peeled and often quite rubbery. Not bad, but sure isn't gourmet. Also, their school doesn't even seem to have a salad bar? Or any salad available at all, except for hte shredded carrots that go with that dish.
We called them rubber potatoes. My elementary school was small and used fresh and properly cooked potatoes. Now it all comes from s central kitchen and made cheap.
I don't know how it is now, but we always had vegetables available. Either a vegetable medley, just corn, or what they called succotash but it was only corn and lima beans which I guess is a bare minimum qualification to call it that
Well, most adults don't, really, but kids drink milk with food. Adults tend to drink coffee with breakfast and water, if not a beer or wine, with food.

Yeah, there were a few meals that didn't have vegetables, but we were always required to grab a fruit even if we weren't going to eat it.
