Feeling sad today. Enjoy some memes and vicarious socializing.

Took up sourdough last summer. Think I've gotten good at it now. Bread tax at the end as evidence!

All valid responses

Also migraine meds should come in padded bottles to muffle the sound. @ me, Bayer.

My primary love language

Please? Any engineering friends want to team up and become supervillains? I'll specialize in psychological torment.

Spoiler in bread tax below

Got a legit reason to send this when bestie asked about my ice pick headaches

Coooooke

Part 2 below

I'm aware the program responds based on user input btw, which is why I saved this to show my psych students why they cannot rely on ai for genuine reflection

Part two from supermarket sweep!

Me: "hey get off the table!"
Wilson: "oh damn she can see me, but the lights were out!"

Me with baking and my sister with gardening

See above re: my love language bring annoyance

Nuuuu

I'm a Michigan gal. I've visited New Orleans in July. I'll stay in the north. Good to visit but my God. Give me 50°F and rainy.

Academia version: once the semester gets started/midterms end/ after finals week

@CodyBurkett Bread tax! Use this for a future dump? Cheddar herb sourdough.

Cat search spoiler: black kitty on rug.

#11 Do you mean not like them as in don't want to wear them? Then I've been old since late high school/college. If you mean old like upset that people are wearing them and wish they would stop? Then I am still young.

As a type 1 diabetic that infograph of donuts and coffee is super misleading. Why don't we go by carbs instead of grams of sugar. Because one of those will put you under and the other you'll just have to take extra insulin and the one that'll put you on under isn't the coffee.

#5 I like the theory that "Be not afraid" is a mistranslation of "Please stop screaming"

6 months ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

That’s a pretty solid theory. Wait why is it even a theory? That’s for sure what the alien/angel was trying to say

#43 Also a Michigander though I would argue we're one of the most humid northern states, but I've been in West Virginia, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida at the HEIGHT of Summer. I'll take Michigan every time.

6 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

#43 Agreed. Michigan born and raised. And fall will always be the best season. A high of 55, crisp breeze, and a bonfire to keep the evening going. I tried a summer in North Carolina, beautiful, but my God was it way too warm for my taste. And no good lakes to cool off at.

Another person living in Michigan. In like 20-30 years, we're going to be like New Orleans now. They'll just be straight up uninhabitable.

You can die in peace, knowing it was all worth it for the shareholders ♥

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We're by the Great Lakes. We won't die in peace. We'll be casualties in the impending Water Wars.

#29 Watched a woman sink even with a lifejacket on, twas wild. Luckily it was in a pool and she was demonstrating

#1 And the costumes!!! This is truly superb.

6 months ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 0

I can't confirm it either way, but last time comments said that this was, in fact, promotional art, and not a photo from the play.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To see that live must have been amazing. I know the way a lot of those old productions were photographed/filmed adds to it as well but they had to be awesome first in order to look that good

#12 This, except instead of transferring your pain to a doctor, you transfer it to an insurance CEO who rejects your claim because it's not "necessary".

#11 I went "not young" pretty early then, as I was in high school in the time of tight-rolling jeans in the 90s, and I hated that

6 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

holy shit I forgot that was a thing. core memory unlocked. I remember my cousin doing this every single day

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I actively disliked the "prestressed/preripped" fad in the 90s too, while I was in school.

Umbrella?

A cane works. Also clears the path of roving assault turkeys (beak torpedos), which we encounter in increasing numbers of late. They get cocky when in large groups.

Preferred method is to flip the cane around when they approach so they're dealing with the handle end which has a bit more mass, leaving me with a solid grip on the rubber foot.
They change their minds about challenging me when they see the bludgeon coming. Plus, you can hook them up into the air for a lively game of bat de birb.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As someone who also lives in an area of wild/feral turkeys, I will tuck this bit of advice away in my mind for later, in case I ever need it.

#6 sound isn't the problem with my migraines. Light on the other hand.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

True. Okay, update: Make the bottle mildly glow in the dark so we don't need to put a light on for it 👍️

#6 - While we're at it, putting the pants for tall people on the bottom shelf and the pants for short people on the top shelf is just cruel. If your store does this, everyone who is not average height hates you.

6 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

#38 I'm trying. The problem is that other people want money

6 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

#49 No I can't. Even if the goose attacked me first, society would have negative repercussions for me if I hurt it.

They celebrated their 41st anniversary in 2024, I'm gonna go with they're still going strong. :)

#11 Or when a retro fashion trend in pants matches a pair you have in your closet that you bought the first time the style was popular.

6 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

#12 hey, that was a Black Mirror episode. It, uh...it does not end well for the doctor. Plan was the same though. Transfer the feelings and all, so that the doctor could gain this comprehensive knowledge on what different afflictions felt like, so he'd be able to more accurately treat them based on what patients said they were feeling.

6 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

How did it not end well? Spoiler me I would love to know

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Patient died while the doc was trying to treat him and while he was hooked up. The sensation of dying awakens a weird masochistic/dadistic streak in him. He ends up addicted to the feeling of dying and all that jazz and takes to mutilating himself just to feel a little bit of that feeling again. Eventually he ends up forcing a homeless guy to connect with him, so that he can murder said homeless guy, and get that rush of dying again. Ends up with him in a permanent coma from it.

6 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thanks a ton, that's DARK lol

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Spoiler Alert: After experiencing a patient's death the doctor starts getting off on pain. First he lets patients die, then he starts mutilating himself, then finally he tortures & murders someone.

Jesus christ! That's grim, thank you!

#14 Mine is usually "this infographic is probably bullshit"

6 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It's not as exciting as saying "this has almost twice the sugar that orange juice does"

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Considering it's only focusing on sugar and not the net fat or simple carbs to be able to make that comparison, yeah, it is. It's like saying drinking a 20z soda is the same as eating 30 large orders of french fries because they both equal 60g of sugar.

6 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Most of the time they are technically true but excluding all sorts of context and tings like ignoring other nutrients (though both donuts and coffee drinks are low on those)

#11 When low-rise jeans were the big thing in 2000s, nobody wanted to buy them, not even teenagers. But companies refused to give consumers other choices until they fell out of fashion.

6 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 5

Oh, so, like AI today.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Wait a minute.

The corporations tried to force revealing clothing onto the kids?

What were those billionaires and millionaires thinking..

6 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

For me it was tight-rolling jeans in the 90s. That was my breaking point, and I hadn't even graduated high school yet

6 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That low rise jean commercial with the singing belly buttons with Diana Ross' I'm Coming Out still haunts me

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right? I lived through the 80s, the 90s, the 00s... I've thought pants trends were dumb from day 1. Giant ripped holes? Zippers on everything? Skinny jeans? All dumb.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I really do miss my NYC and Tripp pants. I only have one pair left and they're missing the bottoms, so now they're just shorts.
I think someone other than myself disappeared them during various moves to places I've lived

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hated skinny jeans when they came out, I was in Highschool. I've been basically 30 ever since.

6 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Same, but now flared legs are doing a come back and I can't imagine dressing like a teenager again.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

True, I only wore them because I hated the high rise ones cutting until my waist more than i hated my butt crack sneaking a peek.

6 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

For that entire period I just bought black BDUs from military surplus stores, partly to avoid the low-rise trend, and partly to keep wearing cargo pants after they fell out of fashion. 😛

6 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I used to wear pants in highschool that I could carry two textbooks in my pockets to keep the backpack lighter. Those were the days

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I never bought Jnco jeans or anything of that sort, but some of my cargo pockets could fit a paperback book, and that was handy in the pre-cell-phone era.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They were soooo comfy once you arranged the chains so you weren't sitting on them, or just frustrated because they caught on every damn thing and just removed the majority of them

#21 Also, there's a ton of hidden prompts that affect the responses. (largely to limit the effectiveness of known weaknesses) In this case, fulfilling an agenda.

6 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

Interestingly, I just started an anonymous grok com session asking these same questions, and the two answers were pretty identical, starting off with universal human rights and pointing out the complexity of the current Middle East situation.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, mine doesn't do that, hating AI is weird but hating people who misuse AI isn't. AI is a tool, it's like hating a hammer, except AI is both the most dangerous and most helpful tool of all time hence it shouldn't be developed by corporations with their own interests and should instead be developed for Humanity as a whole. I want a utopia with extreme technological advancement and freedom to do whatever I want with my time (that means not working 24/7)

6 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 19

I had this thought early on in the AI debates and it still feels true. Everyone wants the Star Trek utopia with holodecks and food replicators but everyone hates the idea of us developing the prerequisite technologies to get there. You think a human artist made that to scale life like 3d model of Paris your walking around? nah.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Hating AI isn't weird. Yes, it has some utility as a tool, but aside from being unnecessary in 99% of applications, the power/water consumption and pollution contributions are off the charts.

Hating AI is like Hating a coal-powered spoon.

6 months ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 2

It really disappoints me that everyone here became an angry mob and missed my point entirely about AI being used correctly by institutions, so first there's a great video on how much water is actually used (which isn't as much as you have been told by far) and secondly that it should be used right for the people and by institutions and not corporations. If anyone read my comment and missed my takeaway, you are what's wrong with society because you don't think. The world is better off without tho

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those people. If you hate me because I have it then fuck off, I deal with mental health issues and extreme anxiety, unfuckingfortunately I need it to function sometimes, I need the 24/7 support it can give along with all this other stuff I deal with that's private. Anyways, all that downvoted thanks for becoming the worst humanity has to offer, I hope you have have traumatizing lives that put you in the same situation I'm in, I'm out of forgiveness, especially after I watched everyone ignoring

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My warnings about trump and the Republicans for fucking years. I have no forgiveness left.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The power and pollution are off the charts because people have spent the last 75 years fighting tooth and claw from preventing mass adaption of green energy. It doesn't /have/ to be powered by coal plants. it doesn't even actually use that much water, the average data center wouldn't make a dent in the daily water usage of a large city. Both of these things could be reduced if response time was scaled down too.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I'm not exactly a fan of AI, but just so we can discuss this with real facts I need to mention that AI makes up just a fraction of freshwater usage compared to industrial farming, which is about 70% of global freshwater consumption.

That's not an argument against our farming practices, mind, I just see the water consumption argument a lot and I think in most instances it's wildly overblown. There are real concerns with AI, but water is rarely one of them.
