A person I used to be convention friends with was always 'shopping his Twitter post pics to look more feminine, them he came out as gay, then as trans... Then ultra maga (like the trump dick sucking level) absolutely bashing all LGBT stuff. He still 'shops his pics ending up looking feminine. Ah, also has a female persona as his own gaming site mascot, saying himself and her age two success of the same coin. Tldr old friend is self hating trans.
The most unbelievable part of the story for me is that Claude challenged her views. I'd sooner believe it being the sycophant it was designed to be instead of promoting any kind of critical thinking
Nah, I've run right wing shit past Claude, it pushes back HARD when you say something objectively fucked in the head. Like it'll play along with things that are defensible, the "reasonable arguments" that get people funneling toward the pipeline, but it'll try to sling shot you out of the pipeline if you go much deeper. My tinkering with AI is to fully understand the threats it poses, how to identify its use in things, etc.
*raises hand* But just because it's not something I aspire to doesn't mean you can't. You go be your own bad self! (or some other more appropriate supportive phrase from a well meaning yet clueless person ;) )
I think the trigger was getting them to say "we all wish we could be women". Presumably, if the conversation progressed in the same way and they'd said the same thing in a human interaction, they'd come to the same conclusion.
The messenger has always been more important than the message. It's REALLY stupid, but that's just the truth of it. If trump walked in right now and told me the sky is blue, I'd assume it was green. This gets way more prevalent the less logic dictates beliefs. It's why people like Tucker, Ben Shapiro, Andrew Tate, and Fox are so damn dangerous. They get a default position of trust, and intelligence gets default skepticism.
It's a fancy search-engine, coded to regurgitate sycophancy, from stolen data, to keep people using it. It has no concept of empathy.
It's the "In Feeling Lucky" button on digital steroids, that can fetch reddit rants, twitter's collective opinions, smashed together Wiki-How art with a sepia filter, and occasionally relevant scraps from digital archives.
It can find resources and cited sources, but by itself it's not a source. And it's definitely not a therapist, doctor or lawyer.

Wait, I'm supposed to believe there are people that don't want to be women?!
Madalchemist2018
My grandma just said everyone wants to kiss women.
HonHomes
I mean, I don't want to be anything. I'm ok with just being "Me"
I'm told this is something like "gender apathy"

AMEN! (or not)

So depressing to see how willing people already are to believe a machine rather than a human telling them the same thing.

Thank you…

maybe the machine can do empathy wayyyy better than most of us self-absorbed self-important apes

It can do sycophancy pretty well, at any rate

and in the story above, if real, it accomplished what nobody else ever got close to?
TheMoonBnuuy
It only did that because the person admitted to thinking every man wants to be a woman, something she probably wouldn't have admitted to a human.
spangolio
SO, YEAH. it worked.
