A friend just sent me this link, saying they fell asleep to this the other night. I’m posting it here as an aid, to be appreciated by a potentially sleepless Imgurian. Enjoy the link, which is 8 hours long

Rainymood.com for state based sleep. If you do it everytime you lay down, your brain gets used to it. I like this Star Trek thing. Gonna try

Wow!! Very cool.
RedLanternGrodd
Tried watching TNG on Netflix. Made it to like Ep8. Does it get better? S1 doesn't seem too solid.
doitthehemingway
I'd say it's mostly nostalgia. It's better than Lost in Space, but other than its status as a classic I'd go with The Expanse.
TypoNinja
TNG is literally the origin of the phrase "Growing The Beard" to indicate a jump in quality. It's from Riker growing a beard in season 2.
bobgunrunnersmith
They had a rough start, but keep watching. TNG hits its stride in Season's 2&3.
billyjonas
Seasons 3-5????
OnePostCloserToAHappierLIfe
Honest truth, I don't think *any* of the Star Trek series benefit from the first season. Yes, it gets better.
Ministellar
First of all, how dare you. But yes, it gets so much better. Stick with it, you won't regret it! <3
Darthcurse
Absolutely gets way better. First season is full of turd episodes.
snooch2thegouch
Season 1 and 2 are awful. Watch "Q Who" and "Measure of a Man" and then skip to season 3 when Michael Pillar took over
GasBandit
It starts rapidly improving in quality once you get to the episodes that were made after Roddenberry died (early S2)
IMakeYourMotherJokes
It’s amazing
gelvy
This site tells you which episodes of Star Trek to watch: http://www.letswatchstartrek.com/tng-episode-guide/
AndrewBuggy
I REALLY disagree with a lot of their ratings.
28dayslaterwasawarning
How the hell did The Inner Light get only a 4? Its rightfully regarded as the best episode of all time
redmangc
Season 1 and part of 2 are the Wesley show after that does it change, today it would not have survived but in the 80s it had a chance
AgainstMethod
Most shows change tone a lot in the first season, but TNG is borderline unwatchable until somewhere in S2 and gets good in S3
baiin
S1 they had writers from TOS working on TNG. It took them a season to realize what worked for the original was not going to work for NextGen
MrPewpyPants
Please just start with season 3. Seasons 1 and 2 are extremely hit or miss, and mostly miss.
Septcanmat
Skip MOST of 1+2, but be sure to watch Measure of a Man, Ship in a Bottle, and Q Who
KissMyAshhole
I've been binging and I'm into like season 5 almost, definitely gets better. I still even enjoyed the first couple seasons a good bit.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Season 1 is the worst season as most are. Get to season 2 and enjoy the rest of the awesome! Oh and watch ds9 and Voyager if you haven't
welluhwhatdoyouwantmetosay
TNG got better without Gene.
FatMax1492
It gets better when Riker grows a beard
Chocolatecoveredmoose
It gets better!!
kalenmiyan
It does get better. Season One has a lot of stinkers. Looking at you, "For Honor".
descenteer
I'm really just echoing the crowd here, but TNG has both the best TV I've ever seen, and the worst. All the worst is in season 1.
Areliae
First 2 seasons are considered dogs.
PotooGeatAndWise
Jump straight to end of season 2
Zyrixion
Don't you fucking dare, you'll miss one of the best Star Trek episodes ever written. S2 E9, Measure of a Man. Up there with The Drumhead.
PotooGeatAndWise
Oh shit, you're right! I used to have a really good curated watch list for NG.
ProfChaos23
Started watching this year. S3 and s4 have some of the best written episodes of any broadcast show I've ever watched
minqapoc
Seasons 1 and 2 are a bit wonky. Much better after that.
BiologicallyHazardousMaterial
#2 and 3 get GOOD.
dennydorko
Season 1 sucks pretty hard. If I hadnt been 13 and starved for scifi when it was on originally, I'd have probably bailed too. Only eps (1/)
dennydorko
worth watching are the ones that later tie directly into later episodes, such as "Datalore," "Skin of Evil" (which is terrible but (2/)
dennydorko
important), "11001001", "The Big Goodbye," "Heart of Glory," "The Battle," "Coming of Age," and "The Neutral Zone."(3/3)
Velv3tThunder
Pretty much all the series suck at first, and get progressively better up to season 3/4, and then are pretty decent after that.
gwhh
Season one really sucked. It does get better.
Comet260
The early seasons Roddenberry was in charge. He had some.......ideas.
FrippTricky
The season finale of season 1 is great and the show only gets better. Genuinely incredible writing for so many episodes.
killerswiller
Keep going, promise you won't regret it. Then onto DS9 and Voyager, enjoy! :D
Bluefasa
Season 1 had a lot of writers from TOS so it feels off with those non-1960's characters. Just skip to season 2 or 3 and fall in love.
AREUTHEMAN
Season 1 was pretty much a pilot, it gets solid
tcpolecat7
TNG starts rough, but as the actors grow into their roles, and the writers get more comfortable, it gets much better.
Kiox
It gets better yeah, just keep watching — I was very much the same when I first started but by the end of it, I was a fan
justarocknroller
The first two seasons are mostly Roddenberry trying to shoehorn sixties idealism into nineties sci fi. After that it gets way better.
HaydukeLivesGoddamnit
It gets wayyy better starting around season 3. You could easily skip and not miss much.
Verred01
Honestly I didn't like it at first but I was told to watch the Borg episodes in season 3 so I powered through and it gets better. I love TNG
effigyoma
S2 is a step up, but it really takes off in S3 with "Yesterday's Enterprise." Then it's pretty solid except for the Ghost Sex episode
MadTimmy
As a hardcore Star Trek fan, I avoid TOS and season 1 of TNG. Definitely watched them once, but saw no reason in seeing them again.
Septcanmat
TOS is extremely hit and miss. There are some episodes worth going back to again.
Drewdunno
There's a few good episodes in season 1 and 2, it gets progressively better from season 3 forward, some crap in every season though.
kwyjiboner
It peaks around seasons 3 and 4, and slides back down.
Apc00
Do we warn him about Dr Crusher and the Ghost episode?
Septcanmat
“You’re not Nana, Nana’s dead!”
filben7
Nope, one of the best shows of all time doesnt get any better than its first season. Also the 1st is all written like the original series.
ilsen
Yes, but as an old school Trekkie, TNG doesn't hold up well in the 2020 binge world. If you watch one episode per week, it might be better.
Filanwizard
those early seasons are so weak, but I am trying to binge. Of course I remember having to wait a week for new ones too. family watched wkly
Mylibu
Episodic shows are good for 2-3 episodes at a time. Season long story arcs like shows such as Babylon 5 are good for longer binges IMO
Fdragon1337
I watched these periodically growing up with mom and dad me and my wife are watching these about 3 to 4 at as time they're great
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
I'm rewatching it and loving it! Totally bingeing, too. Of course I saw the original run so I see it as it was. The first episode /1
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
actually viewed from the lens of 1989 is fucking amazing. Nothing like this was seen on TV before. Nothing. I know people probably see /2
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
it as cheesy now but I just can't. /3
Kiox
I dunno, I managed to binge watch TNG, DS9 and Voyager pretty easily
ghenghisalex
Almost through DS9 on the same route. Loving the binge
Kiox
Haha I had to slow down my binging because I didn’t want it to end ?
redmangc
Psuedo binging it now quite literally, 3-4 episodes at a time is great and it still holds up relatively well for a 80s/90s show
Ghostquatch
Most of here recommend starting with s2 or s3, but i would say stick with it, you'll grow loving the characters even more 1)
Ghostquatch
2) seeing them evolve once they get better episode scripts, better production values etc. TNG gets better and better till the end.
Ghostquatch
3) if it helps, watch s01 through a different lens, see it more of an outdated campy show, reminiscent of TOS.
LasciviousHedgehog
The general rule is that it improves once Riker gets the beard
CaptSheffield
Why does riker's head tilt more and more through the series?
NotaCPA
correct
dk1701
^ This is correct. ^
doppelfisch
PlacentaEaters
Thus the birth of the expression "growing the beard"
ZombieZooZombieZoo
Never heard that expression before, but I like it
Illithidbane
The opposite of "jumping the shark"
RedLanternGrodd
Having no knowledge of the series his young baby face did throw me for a loop
CaptSheffield
How can you not have any knowledge about this.
RubberChickenGoD
Yeah, him without the beard is like he is a giant 6 year old walking around in pajamas all day.
myusernameisntfunny
The story goes, the actor came to set late wearing said beard. He requested to shave it but the director told him not to. only good came.
DoggieSan
First season is a little boring but keep with it the later seasons are really good.
oronoudidnt
Season two is much better, but it gets better as the seasons progress. DS9 is also a great show if you’re into Star Trek.
TheSuspiciousWombat
And DS9 gets better when Sisko loses the hair on his head and gains a goatee.
thepacguy
I've been rewatching it over the summer and was surprised at how good the first season actually was.
Velv3tThunder
He never stops being a self righteous ass though
FormerlySable
As a total non-Trekker, I agree.
BlackCatCasper
And VOY when Kes leaves and Janeway’s hairstyle changes.
Velv3tThunder
Mostly just when Kes leaves. And when Tits McGee shows up.
