Hasbro is apparently trying to do that with a lot of their IPs. D&D is a big one. Trying to use AI DMs and AI voice overs from any actor that has appeared in a Hasbro owned property. They appear to be going all in on using AI to cut out skill and talent for their products.

I sat down w/ my mom (80s) to watch a documentary about various construction projects around the world. Hoover Dam, Millau Viaduct, Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge... virtually all the footage was AI b.s., like aerial shots of cars (all the clones.. a few diff colors). It groaned about it all being AI generated.. her reply: "I didn't notice." and happily continued watching. I walked out of the room to read a book. Fuck AI.

Even more concerning when it involves kids. Besides the people at the top, no one wants AI to replace actors. If anyone is to be replaced w/ AI, let it be the executives Their income is obscene and not tied to productivity or labor. Is this being done in the UK? In the US minors can’t sign such a contract themselves. Any such contract is what’s called voidable (i.e., the minor can choose to just cancel the contract if they want, but the adult party has to honor it if the minor wants them to).

It's probably quite complex, in the UK you can't sign away a right you have. Any such agreement would just fester until it blows up in someone's face with arguments about what rights people have and always had when it happens.

Theres a ton of specific laws and protections regarding child actors that dont apply to anyone over 18, so its actually more expensive and a lot more of a hassle to hire a 17yo to play a 17yo than a 30yo.

While not Hasbro specific, I remember reading years ago, an insider ad consultant said that if you get a child to watch an advertisement for the new toy 20 times, that the success rate was nearly 50% of them pestering their parents that the parent would buy the toy. That's their model, design cheap toy, use cheap animation for show (which us just glorified ad), then spam advertisements to kids.

I would imagine this might work for the lead characters more than minor more replaceable ones, but I could see their lawyers working out a deal where the voice actors will continue working until a set time like say puberty when their voices start to change and then and only then they can use the ai voice. Then after that they make a percentage whenever their child voice is used in the future like a royalties check. Again this would probably only work for lead/ irreplaceable characters.

Here's the big problem: that company could make the voice say whatever they want, and the actor whose voice it is could do nothing about it. Imagine if they made a propaganda video, for instance, that goes against the moral beliefs of the actor. They would be associated with it against their will, and would be powerless to stop it.
