Bet their parents are proud of them

Btw my friend is wondering for what political reasons denounciation of genocide seems to be sometimes considered as terrorism in the UK depending on who's children are starving to death

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unpopular Opinion here:
And now it's all about privilege not genocide.
Sorry, but no, I cannot support Palestine Action, not least because it's now all about them and not about calling Bibi to account for the genocide he's committing in Gaza
Frankly I'm disgusted that Israel and the Jewish faith has allowed itself to do the things it has struggled so long against.
Hamas, funded by Russia and Iran, must free the hostages (taken on Putin's birthday) and Bibi must be called to account.

If that tiny (I bet completely unarmed) old woman is terrorizing you, that seems like a you problem. Can we start a arresting total cowards for being terrorized by tiny old women, instead of the old women?

Did she make a Meme or something?

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

She was protesting the proscription of Palestine Action (which now carries the potential for 14 years jail time) and the government involvement in genocide

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

yeah, nothing new, England has been doing this shit for a long time, if you have an opinion that goes against the allowed one, straight to jail... First time I hear it hitting someone left leaning though...

Oh, look at that. Another Nazi utopia springing up across the pond.

Fuck Keir Starver.

Ok Europeans. Time to hush up about "why don't Americans do something" you've got your own issues to sort out.

I remember that and I remember the Epstein files.

If arresting an 80 year old woman doesn’t wake you up to you being that bad guy, euthanasia might be the only option left

1 year ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 5

Where is the rest of the story why did they arrest her and what do they claim she did that counts as terrorism and what did she actually do?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Protested the Israeli genocide in Gaza

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No surprise they are as screwed up as we are .

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'm not a fan of how we are becoming more moronically absurd with dangerous outcomes for those fighting their corner across the pond here. America sneezes and we catch the cold

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Aren't we glad we finally got the tories out? Here's the new government same as the old government.

1 year ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 4

No matter who you vote for, the government always gets in.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I am frustrated more so because this is a humanitarian issue, and no matter which 'side' I vote for they should care about peoples lives.

So truly disappointed/peeved/unbelieving of with Starmer who along with Sadiq Khan forgets that they're LABOUR Party members who act insipidly towards the poor and disenfranchised in the UK. Grow a pair Mr Starmer defend us and Mr Khan stop crucifying drivers trying to get from A to B in and around London! Abolish zero hours contracts and pay decent wages whilst trying to understand how it REALLY is in the UK today. Don't want it to be the same shit, different fly now do we?

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The very first thing Labour did when they got in was take the winter fuel allowance away from 10 million elderly people. A few years before the election an internal Labour report estimated that would kill 4000 people a year, but that was when they claimed the Tories were thinking of doing it.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Remember that being an MP now is just considered a savvy career move and tough shite if you don't have much to start with because the day to day they decide on will just grind you down via their petty mean "ideals". The tories would never have cut the winter fuel allowance because those house-owning well-off older people (woopies) are their bread and butter who usually have very set ideas on law and order and what makes this country 'great'

UK police have their own secure mobile network so these are the phones they all have. The fire service and ambulances use them as well. IIRC they can use them as phone or use them like walky talkies and talk to multiple nearby units. The old analog radios could be listened to with a cheap scanner and criminals often did this when doing a job. Cops sometimes transmitted fake traffic reporting UFO landings, and waited for people to turn up!

If an 80 year old woman is a "threat", you are likely in the wrong

1 year ago | Likes 189 Dislikes 11

Ummm no, not at all saying that's what's going on here but Trump, David Duke, Al Zawahiri, Ahmed Yassin, The Blind Sheikh....

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bullshit. Do you know how many 80 year old nazi supporting aholes are out there? Age doesn't stop you from either being a threat.

1 year ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

This is the problem with laws that overreach. This is clearly not the intent, yet the woolly excessively powerful laws oblige the police to arrest people like this, as they have broken a law from a democratic government. But at the same time it feels like we're more happy with ranting about it on the Internet than engaging with the legislation as it gets created.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

99% of laws don't _oblige_ an individual LEO to do anything.

If a cop feels he/she has no discretion about how/where/when they enforce law X, it's because somebody up their chain of command (possibly at the political level) has made a _policy_ choice on how the law is enforced.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

We can hope that the cops knew what they were doing.... That it was malicious compliance (arrest the protestors!) to make the Powers That Be look like shite.

1 year ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 5

I'm glad you can still cling to optimism. My jaded ass just sees yet another vase of "just following orders" cowardice

Any source? I don't have a hard time believing an 80 yo was arrested but terrorism charges sound a bit ridiculous

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8de6rq37v5o

She's being arrested for violation of the Terrorism Act of 2000. I don't know what the exact legal charge is but it seems pretty cut and dry that the government is claiming that she is a terrorist by arresting her under the provisions of the anti-terrorism act.

Is there a source to back up the claims of what’s happening in this photo? A photo by itself can be used to tell a number of stories. I can think of a number of other scenarios that might actually be what’s happening in this photo.

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cqjyyzlwk2go
- The average age of those arrested was 54, and the most arrests - 147 of them - were of people aged between 60 and 69

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The photo is exactly what it says it is. They arrested 500+ people at a protest. The protest was called a protest to support "Palestine action" that has been labelled a terrorist organisation. The problem is, people are protesting genocide in Israel, supported by a complicit government in the UK. It's difficult to ask for "action on Palestine", without those two words appearing, at which point you can be claimed to be a terrorist sympathiser.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

It's not exactly though is it they were not arrested for terrorism as you yourself admit. There are hundreds of thousands of pro Palestinian marches any given week/month that draw great attention to the cause rather than these bucket list middle class 'oh I got arrested so this me as I did something' twats. They won't have heard of PA until recently and now virue signal instead of supporting the marches that, gee golly, maybe aren't linked to founders who lionize the 7th Oct attack like PA did.

1 year ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 7

Why does colonialism from Britain in this specific instance give imgur a hard on? The region has had a multitude of people groups in it forever, never just one at a time, and saying it should belong to one specific group is bullshit.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 27

I don't really give a fuck who calls it what, ultimately, when the main Q on the table is "if this is indeed genocide, then why are we funding it?"
