These descriptions have helped me put words on my feelings and made it easier to share them with family and loved ones without having to open myself up too much because that shit is scary. There are tons more on their Insta. They differ a lot between subjects so some are applicable to my situations and some aren't at all.
Sometimes I get lonely and I read one of their posts that somehow perfectly reflects what I'm going through and suddenly I don't feel as alone. Others are feeling the same thing and they've survived. So maybe I will too. I don't know, but it gives me an extra 5% to help me through the bad days. https://www.instagram.com/realdepressionproject/

You're not alone. I hope you have people in your life who listen to you and care.

The more I ascend in age the less alone I feel & that does not make me happy but it does make me think it’s less about my trauma & more a huge societal problem affecting the majority of us
Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
For sure this is a societal problem! Way too many are way too depressed for this not to be. We're all slaving away to make money for people who don't give a fuck about us and who are doing their best to destroy the planet for good.

Lifelong depression sucks. Feels like you're never going to "get better" or be okay
Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
Yeah. It's a punch in the proverbial dick every day. But at least for me it does get better, just very slowly. Maybe 1% better each month. Some -1% of course, but that's just how it is. I found out I had some physical issues that made it worse too. For lifelong depression maybe you can have yourself checked out physically too if you have insurance or live somewhere where you don't need it? For me it was obstructive sleep apnea that ruined my energy for 10-15 years.
Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
This is their book about how to overcome depression. I haven't read it. I think I'm scared that maybe if I read it I won't feel like I can achieve their goals or tips and I will feel like I'm not doing all I can to get better. Not sure if that makes any sense, but since people asked of what to do with this information this is all I've got. I'm just taking it one day at a time, and getting reminded my issues are real and shared with others helps me.
Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
I didn't include this in the original post because it felt too much like doing an ad for their stuff.
TurtleMeenageNurtleTutant
you cant overcome depression you can just learn to deal .. i mean trying to fight it .. day by day
Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
Not true for me at least. Overcoming depression for me is to deal with it day by day until I've recently FINALLY felt a little bit changing inside. Things I used to have to overcome suddenly disappeared and the burden is a little bit lighter. I hope you will feel that way too some day. Thanks for not giving up. You're doing all the heavy work and I respect you for that.

Oh hey.

Good to see knowledgeable and sympathetic people reaching out to people who're taking it hard (pun intended, getting f***ed by life and be daunting). Anyone who's been there and unsure about what to do or how, this kind of stuff is invaluable +1

Life is like a dick. Sometimes it's hard for no reason.

Sending so many hugs. We can get through this shit. Our brains are just wired wrong. <3

I'm in this as well, but I just thought I was a useless broken thing before I saw this. Hope the grey feelings pass for you soon.

Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
Oh yeah for sure. Everyone walks around feeling overwhelmed and like a burden to society in general. Right? right...?

Why is there a random pube on every picture?!
Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
That's my bad. I'm a bad llama.

Wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have imposter syndrome over my depression. It feels like im not allowed to be depressed because I have good things in my life as well which ends up making me feel stressed as fuck.
Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
You are entitled to your feelings no matter why you have them and how anyone else would have felt in the same situation. You are you. I was trying to look up a good quote from RDP. I'm not sure if this one is applicable to you but I think it's a good reminder for myself at least. https://www.instagram.com/p/Czd93EktLmu/?img_index=1

I have these a couple of times a year
Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
Do you have people to talk to about it?
pennypoohbear
Since I've had the most of my life I know how to handle them. You just got to wait it out and take care of yourself cuz it does lift. Sometimes it takes a couple of weeks but you just have to hold on. I've done the whole therapist, family, friends thing and it's just better when I handle it my own self because I know it so well
Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
Good for you! <3

Friends? They got sick of my depressed shit
duhqueenmoki
I think I may be one of those friends. I didn't "get sick of their depressed shit" but, while struggling with my own problems, hanging out with them became too one-sided. It's hard to hang out with someone when they're not interested in any activities, offer a negative perspective to every topic, and drain the energy with every interaction. Not their fault, but I didn't know how to hang out with them. I still text and send memes, but no hanging anymore. It's all I can handle atm. Therapy pls
duhqueenmoki
I'm not saying how I deal with my depressed friend is okay, but I do think when someone is depressed they should at least try to seek professional help, or it will put a strain on all their relationships. I can do what I can, but my own mental health is important too, and I can't be the one always doing the heavy-lifting for our friendship.
exactedgenticles
Honestly it sounds like you were able to maintain healthy boundaries in a difficult situation. Because of that it seems like you are preserving the relationship. Right now you're not hanging out, but maybe that could change if they get help. It's okay to pump the brakes when relationships are damaging to your mental health, even if your friend is going through it worse
bittenicht39
So they are not friends, only acquaintances.
dawggunner
That is legit how I would describe every single person in my life today, including family.
Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
I'm really sorry to hear that. Are medical professionals cheap or free where you live? If so could you please consider seeking help? Having someone to talk to about this shit is really important.
mkd64
Thanks. I'm trying to find a professional. The one I was seeing kept increasing their rate so I had to stop going. That was a couple years ago. I can't help but think it's a racket. I've been through "the system" and spit out the other end so I'm a touch cynical. U.S.A... the jokes... Aren't jokes.
Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
Maybe you can join an online community? I don't know any sadly, but I've seen others post about them here before. You could maybe google it and see if you can get anyone to talk to. Just writing it down where anyone can see it helps sometimes too.
IUsedToHaveUsernameOnce
Yeah, it do be like that. Then comes the good neighbour anxiety telling you, your performance at work dropped so the company's goanna drop you.
Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
I hope wherever you live that you can sue them to hell and back if they do. Fuck people who treat you and your health as a number in their greed for more. Not that logic helps much with anxiety, but I like to remind myself of the truth between anxious breakdowns.
IUsedToHaveUsernameOnce
Eh that's IT for you. People glorify software dev but it can be a little hellish. I've been fired due to performance before when my mental health took a hit. This time around I caught my mental health going down and got lined up for another job the moment I noticed my performance drop. Thanks for the kind words though :) made me feel a little better.
IUsedToHaveUsernameOnce
Also the current job was the reason of much of my ire, mostly due to how much I needed to do and how underpaid I was. We're not all paid 6 figures and have free food at our offices. That being said the new position comes with a significant pay bump which - yeah whoever said money doesn't solve problem is a fucking idiot.
Idonotkillpeoplethatismyleastfavoritethingtodo
Haha good for you! I hope you feel better with your new job! And if there is a good union I hope they will help you avoid similar situations in the future!
IUsedToHaveUsernameOnce
Software and IT doesn't have unions and we're all too autistic to create one unfortunately. I've been advocating for IT workers to unionise for quite a while. Usually the excuse was that it's not a "low skill" job so we "don't need unions". Than again, I'm happy I'm in Australia and we still have some worker's rights.
