When you hire an arborist on an hourly contract.

I think this was the interview for a prospective hire.

Let me guess, u decided to pay them by the hour cuz U assumed it would be a quick job :P

We used to heat our house with wood we cut down from the side of fields (with permission). My Dad was pretty bad at almost anything but somehow did this with pinpoint precision. It was his one true gift and it was surprising how he could make a dead or dying tree fall exactly where it needed to go to clear healthy trees. Heavily intoxicated at the time too.

(Sigh) ok, but let the boys have fun once in a while.

Cutting towards your face is a choice

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Y'know what... I'll allow it.

The guys are clearly having fun with what they are doing, and they are practicing the same techniques used with larger trees.

10/10 would hire again and again.

Charging by the hour.

When the people pointing the story in jira have never done the work before....

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

why’d they kill that tree? stupid

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I saw those guys climbing one time and decided I wanted to do that. So I got a saddle and minimum set of gear and learned to climb. I looked like this guy when I was starting - except older and no chainsaw! I find it a lot more enjoyable than rock climbing. It's cool when you're 65ft up and you can lean back hands-free and just sway in the breeze with the tree.

You're certifiable, Quint. You know that? You're certifiable!

Quiet day?

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Here's some fellows who clearly know how to sleep all night, and work all day.

1 week ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

They are Lumberjacks and they are okay.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

They most certainly are not okay.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Somewhere in that street theres a nurse trying to sleep in between nightshifts

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, good a reason as any to practice proper procedure.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Boss: "Nice to see you guys have time for this crap. Get back to work."

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The hilariously long tang on the saw makes it for me.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still fun to watchl

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Unsung heroes, all of them

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not that I know anything about climbing trees and cutting them down, but I sure as hell wouldn’t be cutting TOWARD myself with a chainsaw.

1 week ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

I don't know, this expert did it and nothing bad happened

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Seriously! At 0:16 he shows how not-pro he is.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's in line with his neck so it's not like he could lose anything important.

'kn'oath

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was just using a chainsaw the other day and learned why you dont typically cut with the top of the blade, he was probably having a harder time keeping it going towards himself than anything else. I'm a complete novice, but either way, I still got to feel how much it didnt want to keep cutting

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I learned it from this video

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jesus Christ, yeah. kickback from the tip is dangerous as hell. The tip should never touch whatever your cutting iirc

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Got kinda nervous when he was cutting toward himself.

1 week ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

...and when he was working in the wedge and the chainsaw was in between his hand and his torso.

1 week ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

hey, good practice for doing it with bigger trees.

1 week ago | Likes 151 Dislikes 1

If they did what they did with bigger trees they'd be dead. No idea if these are professionals but what they showed there was amateur.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 12

What….? Did you forget to add /s? If not, you’re stupid.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Dude no. NEVER cut toward yourself with a chainsaw. EVER.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

My Uncle Lefty said it's fine

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I learned something in the military. Time spent on training and rehearsals is seldom wasted

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah I was thinking this is a good way to learn the basics & techniques before being 20 feet or more up in the air with much bigger targets

1 week ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

A few weeks ago we had to get a 3 man crew to take out dead and dying trees. Starting here is a LOT safer than the leaning 60' Douglas fir encroaching on the power lines.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Pictures bro. Maybe story time too.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pics wouldn't do much good, didn't take any. But Kevin the apprentice needs to shape up. He started the day be being 30 minutes late and then was barely hauling anything compared to the more experienced guy. He was told to fetch the gas from the truck, and he came back with just oil. He started to get his act together when they put him in the Bobcat to move large debris- but was still very timid about how much that could carry

Kevin, get yo shit together bruh! 😎
