#1 As someone who works at a gas station, I get tons of pretty girls coming through. I don't tell them they're pretty, though. That would be weird. I do sometimes tell them things like "I love your shirt," or "that jacket is fantastic." Of course, I do that if a guy comes through in a nice shirt or something, too. People like genuine compliments.

Irregardless doesn't actually bother me, but expresso and excetera both do. My biggest irritation right now is "all the sudden" which drives me nuts and seems to be more and more common (it is "all of a sudden" for anyone not aware).

If you get half a doublemint does that just make it mint gum?

That’s good logic. I’m really proud of you. You may also take a candy from my purse.
yaddiex3
If you're lucky, she's got Werther's. The hard ones, not the chewy ones.
Denvercoder09
Another strawberry hard candy? Where do you even buy these??
ImSilverTongue
Buy? No one buys strawberry hard candies. They spawn in purses and grandma candy dishes.
dangerm0use
I don’t! They just started materialising in my purse when I got to a certain age

As a Jason, tell them I’m sorry.
GCRust
As a Josh...that's kind of a mood. 18+ years later, it still bothers me how I screwed up in some ways. There are times I want to reach out and apologize, but it was 18+ years ago. None of us are the same people, and is it a bigger deal on my end then theirs?

Usage makes a word legit. Saying irregardless enough will make it conventional use! It's also been around as a used term since the interwar period.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/irregardless
DVSBSTrD
It's still wrong.

I'd classify myself as descriptivist but without the hangups. Semiotics is meaningless, not in the negative but in the encouraging. Break all the rules, revel in the lawlessness!
Pilgrymm
"The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead." - your source
IchtacaSebonhera
Irregardless, clearly you have not read the first word of the first answer of the FAQ section. And to quote the last sentence of that paragraph: Remember that a definition is not an endorsement of a word's use.
If you want to play these kind of games, then maybe stick to your own rules and don't use any "invented" words that were introduced into the English language in the middle point. Like, er... alligator, eyeball, inaudible, nervous, worthless, undressing, all of which Shakespeare made up.

Ay, ay, ay! Let me “axe” you a “qwrstion”!
PlanckEraWasMyBestEra
Both of those are typically heard from AAVE which is a valid cultural accent with its own proper grammar and pronunciations. The idea that it's "uneducated" and sounds "stupid" is steeped in a heavy amount of racism we all were subconsciously exposed to, so we don't even realize we are perpetuating that racism by complaining about how dumb it sounds.

The number of middle eastern men who send me unsolicited messages telling me I'm beautiful and they would treat me like a queen is more than I ever imagined.
korndogg83
I had a Middle Eastern man solicit me last week in the gym. Wanted me to come into a bathroom stall with him. Didn’t even tell me that he would treat me like a queen. No manners.
sundaymondayhippyday
Without the Queen identifier he’s more of a creep!
Slidje
He didn't even offer you a thousand camels?
korndogg83
Nope. And I have to say I felt really awkward afterwards and also a bit bad. Not even wanting to know my name or get to know me before asking to have sex felt off. Maybe for some people that’s fine and I don’t judge them but I personally didn’t like it at all.
