If anyone's even remotely interested, you can literally just tie a rope/thick string around a brick/stone (or loop through holes), and hurl it with increased force from farther away like a bola.
Not as difficult as you might think. If kids can figure out how to use slings and hit small targets with them, it's not so tall an order as you might think.
