Yes, Messi did do a ”hand of god” goal, but it was a long time ago (around the 2011-2014 timeframe if I’m not mistaken). But that was a normal Spanish league game and not in the WC. They didn’t use VAR at the time so the ref missed it, I don’t remember if he got a suspension in the next game or not but it wasn’t very dramatic.

Yes, Messi did do a ”hand of god” goal, but it was a long time ago (around the 2011-2014 timeframe if I’m not mistaken). But that was a normal Spanish league game and not in the WC. They didn’t use VAR at the time so the ref missed it, I don’t remember if he got a suspension in the next game or not but it wasn’t very dramatic.
In general Messi has had a quite fair career overall imho, not much cheating and exaggerated reactions like many of his contemporaries.

That’s the impression I have too. The referees this WC have made some questionable decisions (or non-decisions) in Argentina’s favour and many of both the Argentinian players and fans have been absolutely assholes, but I wouldn’t drag Messi down bc of them.
He is an incredible player who is observant, tactical and insanely skilled and I have hardly ever seen him loose his temper and get dragged in to the usual cock fights like other football players do.
