From what I've read, it sounds like Sheeran is more just a spineless cuck than a bad actor here. Like obviously not choosing a side is choosing a side, but some people are just so chicken shit about avoiding initial conflict that they get themselves into even deeper shit.

I think you’re doing him a disservice. Yes, a guitar with a looper is conceptually simple, but the level Ed uses it at is way ahead of what 99% of guitarists could even dream of.
(Note I didn’t say Sheeran was a good person. I think he’s learning the hard way that sometimes refusing to pick a side is still picking a side. But that’s not relevant to discussion of what he does.)

I’d say im doing him a service for at least acknowledging that his backing band makes him sound almost decent. His music is soulless, voiceless, lacks any real artistic merit, and his best song was written and produced by other people for something way more culturally important than he’ll ever be.
It’s not a sin to like his music, but it’s hard to admit he’s doing anything new, novel, technically skilful or even well-written or performed.

I'm not a massive fan of Macklemore but (because of his Tiny Desk performance) I know he's got a song called "Same Love" with some really sweet lyrics supporting the LGBTQ+ community. He’s been openly pro-Palestine for years, so it’s only a problem right now because he did it at a concert with a MUCH bigger platform than he usually has, and the spineless lead act and their promoters made a big deal about it.
