I've been noticing a reoccurring pattern of people dying very soon after their life-long spouses. Stan Lee passed a year after Joan Boocock (70yr marriage); Queen Elizabeth passed a year after Prince Philip (74yr marriage); and Dolly passed a year after Carl Dean (59yr marriage). It could just be coincidence, but perhaps spending your whole life loving someone only to wake up and find them gone would hurt more than any wound or disease. In any case, I hope they're all reunited. RIP Dolly Parton.
I've heard it called love bird syndrome. When you have a mated pair of birds of certain species the mates die shortly after the first bird. My grandparents were together for over 60 years and my granddad died less than a year after my grandmother. I was heartbreaking visiting his during that year, he was utterly lost
Aww, bless. Yes, death by broken heart has long, long, long been a well-recognized phenomenon. There's even a medical name for what causes it: Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy.
I've heard of this on many occasions as well. It's not something new. It may not be a biological rule, per se, but it happens too frequently to be a fluke.
My grandmother did this, she lived about three months longer than my grandfather, enough to set the affairs in order and make sure the kids were okay (as okay as you can be after the death of your parents)
Seeing the same thing with my father in law. MiL died about 2 years ago. He's deteriorated a lot since then, no longer leaving the house, in a way he's like a corpse waiting to happen.
My father (2022) died just under 22 months after my mother (2020), I heard him lose interest in life over the phone, we couldn't visit either of them because of Covid & health issues, theirs & ours.

Can you send our angel back please?

She more than earned her rest. There'll be other angels, this one did what good she could & went home.

Jimmy Carter died 13 months after his wife.
NumptyDumptyLump
Johnny Cash and June Carter.

I think Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher are another similar issue

Dont forget carrie fishers mom passed soon after her daughter. This is not an unknown thing. We often call it “the will to live”

Both sets of my grandparents died within a month of each other. Yes, I believe dying from the stress of a broken heart is real….😞

My grandmother passed a week after my grandfather. :(
MrSwissroll
That's rough, buddy. I'm sorry to hear

Thank you

Happened to a friend, his dad died a week after his Mom. He wasn’t even 16, I can’t imagine having something like that happen.
MrSwissroll
Damn, that's just terrible. My condolences to him, I can't imagine either. I hope he's in better times now
LeifHietala
It's statistically significant. There's a notable correlation between spouses passing within a year or two of each other.

It sometimes happens in other species, too, such as dogs.

There are enough examples in humans and in nature for it to be 100% a thing. It is sad but life often tends to be sad.
Madcaplaughs84
Johnny Cash and June Carter were months apart.

I'm 11 years older than my wife, but if she somehow goes before me, I won't be able to function, nor would I want to.

Have any other amazing people lost their spouses recently, hope not!!

You might be onto something here. An early Divorce could be the answer.
stabbermcshooty
Johnny cash died pretty soon after June Carter

Also there’s some who probably just pass because coming down to brass tacks the person who knew their medicine schedule is gone

If the center of your life disappeared, it would be very hard to keep on going.

My mom went on for 15 years after my dad died. It wasn’t easy by a long shot, and ended with Alzheimer’s, but she kept going.

I died 7 years ago.
