My boyfriend was doing the wiring for a house and noticed these on the house next door. He asked about it and turns out the neighbors really dislike the owner and hang the aluminum pans to shine sunlight in through their windows.

This is a level of petty I can get behind.

Really? I bet it's to keep woodpeckers away. Common tactic on wood shakes houses like this one. Doesn't look like a sunny spot either.

Wood siding. Definitely for woodpeckers.

Imma need a back story for this ridiculousness

Neighbor of mine does this exact thing (with ribbons and pans just like that, even CDs) to scare away birds. Methinks your BF got trolled.

easily defended against with prisms. as a bonus you get rainbows everywhere.

I almost did this because of Woodpeckers! Bastards

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its for wood peckers. Anyone in a shingle house has gotten this desperate in the spring

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The neighbor, in his backyard at 3am looking at the tin foil house like..

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They use them to scare woodpeckers..

Nothing worse than bad neighbors.

Both brilliant and assholish.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is actually a common practice to prevent the government satellites from controlling their minds!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This reflects poorly on the neighborhood.

Well done.

It's not a wall mounted AC unit, the HOA doesn't care.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

+stupidity...you live next to each other. This just increases the likelihood you’ll have to deal with them more. Why would you want that.

5 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Because human spite and vengefulness have no bounds for some people.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I would love to know the reason

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Its probably just to deter woodpeckers

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not buyin’ this. Prolly trying to ward off birds that peck at his termite infested house.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The lesson here: It's not always about you.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This says more about the neighbours than the owners.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If only there were some clothlike covering to block it....or like slats that move in a coordinated fashion

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Once I was woke to the most insane pounding and couldn't figure out what it was. It was Woody. Woody Woodpecker.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks like the house is REALLY nervous about something or just finished a jog

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just rename your wifi hotspot to "white house sucks dick"

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Weird. Used to be a tactic for scaring crows. Are the neighbors crows?

5 years ago | Likes 430 Dislikes 1

I had a lot of problems with robins flying into my windows this year.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's to deter woodpeckers. Doesn't work.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My parents have them for woodpeckers

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Wait, are you trying to say your neighbors are NOT crows?!

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

"Please calm down Matt, this is crazy, I'm telling you they're just from Jersey, they aren't crow people!" "Hey Matty, check out my new caw"

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"look at that, he decorated it with bottle caps, plastic jewels and other junk items" "Like I said, they're from Jersey"

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Din’t know why you’d need to scare crows, but these can work for woodpeckers, the devil’s bird.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes I hated mine. Esp when it's mating season! Wack Wack Wack... And that's not their headboard banging.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And was there a murder? *Laughing in crow*

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I hear they're from boston, they talk about their car a lot

5 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 0

Lol! Hilarious.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Honestly, that jokes always kinda bothered me because the a in caw isn’t right. Not nearly obnoxious enough to be from a townie

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

@ExtraUpvote. Again I require your assistance.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

+1'd!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used to do this to keep woodpeckers and nuthatches away.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

....I read that as nunchucks

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Caw?!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They have no caws for alarm, crows are friendly!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So now, the neighbor has to install mirrors on the side of his house and the war has begun

5 years ago | Likes 647 Dislikes 2

Mirrors? Huge parabolic reflector with fresnel lens which can set their neoighbours house on fire on a sunny day, you mean?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

im pretty sure "used a deathray to set neigbours house on fire" is a crime

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is just an art installation. If their house caught fire because of the unintentional sunlight reflected onto it, that is unfortunate.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is straight out of donald ducks magazine wars with his neighbour some years. Ahh the good old magazine times when you were young!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Depends on the direction these are facing. Assuming this is the North hemisphere, if the pictured wall is facing south, then the hated

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

neighbors north wall won't get any direct sunlight.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you want a resonance cascade failure? Because this is how you get a resonance cascade failure.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

There was an excellent Home Improvement episode with this very premise

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was gonna say flood lights... but mirrors are cheaper.

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

are they though? a really big mirror is expensive and hard to transport...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

buy smaller mirrors and fix them together, cheaper and easier to hide

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Put up a Fresnel lens and raise their AC bill by hundreds of $$ every month

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

i thought these would be very expensive, but nope, less than $5

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Install a magnifying glass on the roof of your house pointing the sun at the neighbour's

5 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Giant mirror over house to deflect the sun beam directly back at the sun! There by destroying the true menace!

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

The sun eventually overheats and explodes and takes out the neighborhood.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Calm down there count Olaf

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Use a fresnel lense, cheaper and much more effective. My brother and i would melt concrete with one.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Melt lots of thing with a fresnel, pretty amazing thing

ITS FOR MOTHER PECKING WOOD FUCKERS!

5 years ago | Likes 235 Dislikes 2

Crack of dawn, mini jackhammer starts up on the outside wall.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To properly fuck wood, soak it in wood first.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Had one going at the metal flashing for a bit, very annoying. I do like the chatter they make though. Very noisy even when not pecking.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have cedar siding and it’s a nightmare. This is most definitely the case. These people shouldn’t make stupid assumptions.

5 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 1

Yep! We finally resides with Hardieboard. $40k . Bastards

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Every couple of weeks in the fall a woodpecker comes and tries to peck the same spot on a second story corner of the house...

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

...I wait until he's good and settled, then PUNCH HOLY FUCK out of the corner trim with my palm and he's off for another two weeks.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a wood fucker, this is true.

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

God I hate those birds. Go be somewhere else. 5am on the weekend is not the time to check my house for bugs, you assholes.
