So rare to see these beautiful signs any more. They're such a cheery vibe. They were so common back in the day. Nearly every restaurant, drug store, bodega, grocery window. I hope this art form has a revival. Do you ever do permanent signs on wood/mdf?

Is this a style you normally do? It looks authentically retro. Did you have to learn anything specific to replicate it? Story!

Look up ‘grocery signs’ on instagram. I learned by looking through every post as possible.

Will do:) And what got you into it? An interest you developed on your own or someone else got you into it?

Gen-X here. Painting paper signs used to be super common in the last century. Every shop had those and I guess somebody there just painted them.

Despite not liking a world full of signage screaming for me to consume I do think hand painted signs are beautiful. Yours included.

I bloody love proper signwriting. I would frame these.

I feel like this sort of thing is a lost art.

Gansito for those that don't know are chocolate covered shortcakes with a cream and strawberry filling from Mexico. They're super yummy and taste even better frozen so an ice cream based on them sounds amazing

I was going to head over there today but their website says they're closed on Saturdays.

Now THAT’S an effective commercial!

What is gansito flavor?

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Neopolitan

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It’s a mexican pastry. A mix of strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate.

‘Gansito’ is a mexican pastry. Strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla.

Sounds tasty.

Neapolitan ? But all mixed together?

3 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Nah, it's like layered, and then the whole thing is covered in chocolate. It's amazing.

I need it

They are soooooo gooooood.

Probably pretty cost effective to pay the artist given large format printing costs.

Signs like this used to be painted to advertise sales whenever the sale changed. Most cities had a few shops. It was cheap enough to change regularly and they could be done on short notice.

I worked at a large grocery store in the 1980's, and a painter would lay out giant paper sheets on the floor hours before opening and would paint window signs with the specials on them. He was amazingly fast. He did a dozen signs in maybe 20 mins and then went to the next store on his route. He painted for all five of our stores the area.

His job was referred to as being a "commercial artist." He painted them while standing up, with a very long brush, maybe 3-1/2 feet long.

I did it for free. They were going through some things so I just offered my seevices at not charge.

I'm a computer tech in northern California area, I do bartering with a small handful of my clients that became good friends. Fix computers, free breakfast bagels or lift time to repair my car.

Oh good job and that was really nice of you. Sorry just noticed you said you did it. Usually people just repost.

I have purchased at least three sign painting books over the past several years. Bought a a few sign paints and and a brush and just haven’t really done anything yet.

I love your work.

Hey. Getting paid in ice cream? I’d do it for free too! Thank god you can paint! Mine would look like melted ice cream. 👍
