All the reasons people said, but it’s still weird. It’s purple here. I expected the jackasses to go all out, because they could noisily stick it to libs. But…silence.

Not in Chicago! We were ON last night!

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, it was insane levels of stuff by me and didn't stop until around 2am..

Folks are still shooting off fireworks where we live, just not as frequently. The whole mood is pretty subdued.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In my town nobody set off their fireworks today. Might be some kind of protest or the fact that live in Brazil.

I have been noticing the same. I wonder how much of it is economic, how much of it is frustration with our criminal regime, and how much of it is people worried about drawing attention to themselves and giving an excuse to ice. We have a healthy Latin community around here, and while this is a sanctuary city we know ICE is prowling around looking for excuses to turn us into the next Minneapolis.

they went til 4 in the morning

It is you. It's just been sounding like a war here for the last few hours, it's still daylight so ita only gonna get worse.

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Are we fucking winning yet?

3 weeks ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

It started over a week ago around here (Arkansas), and something really big went off at 00:01 this morning. But we've had worse years. There definitely seem to be fewer fire trucks on the move this year.

Rural Hawaii here. There was next to no fireworks last night, and we usually get at least a couple of good showings from our balcony. A couple of neighbors have taken their Trump banners down off of their houses. We DO still have a jackass just down the street with a Gadsden flag and a "I STAND WITH ISRAEL" sign, but I think he is getting fed up with things too.

I commented that today at work. I live in an apartment complex and they usually start mid-week. Haven’t heard any yet.

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

There were so much set off where i live for so freaking long. Was all night and sounded like a warzone

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean I’m not really feeling it, just kinda got some small stuff for the kids… likely won’t even stay up late… and I’m a vet.
I joined right after 9/11 and gave up my health and youth for this country. What a miserable mistake that was.

I'm sorry that happened. Thank you for your bravery and good intentions. I'd say thank you for your service, but I think your point was, "service to what?".

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You get it!

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i feel that, but least i have free healthcare now... i did go watch some fireworks the local town set up. was extremely disappointing, which felt appropriate lol

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Around here there's a ban in place due to the danger of starting fires that can't be controlled because everything is so dry. Thanks, climate change!

3 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You are right. My neighborhood usually has some fireworks going off... this year? Nothing.

I agree with Crayolian, where is there to celebrate? Or is this a wake?

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is literally burning money.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What is there to celebrate?

3 weeks ago | Likes 310 Dislikes 10

They were banned here in Utah this year. Too much wildfire risk, the state is a tinderbox.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's kinda my point... I'm calling out the fact that the silence is saying a LOT about the state of the country

3 weeks ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 3

I think it's more the money thing, at least in some places. I'm condemned to deep-red rural Texas, and even with all the Confederate flags and Trump bumper stickers, the nearby properties haven't set off even half the fireworks of the last couple of years...

3 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

That’s what I’m saying

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We're in the middle of a giant drought. Also, I don't feel like celebrating

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not in my town, they've been going off all day

3 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Same here - been going on since last weekend - im guessing tonight will be the normal chaos

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Inflation

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nah. Honestly seems like its been more

3 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Depends on the area. I live near a certain part of town and a certain house with an obscene amounts of certain flags are setting off low altitude fireworks and scaring my cats. I hope their flags burn

In this economy?

3 weeks ago | Likes 232 Dislikes 2

Ive been invited to run regional firework pop-ups for years. The prices are just insane. You're talking about a reverse mortgage (dont do that please), just for a 30 second show. Even in the '90s, my Uncle came with a massive box of m80s, rockets, mortars, the spinners, etc and just said "here, have fun"....although in short order I got in trouble. The full box of m80s was awesome though.

3 weeks ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

+1 for pop up

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I grew up in farmland Illinois. Neighbors would bring back fireworks from Wisconsin. Good times. But they were cheap then. A brick of bottle rockets was like 5 bucks or buy 2 get one.

I wonder what a whole box of m80s goin off would sound like

3 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

The day of the 4th, I'll usually hear a steady series of pops from firecrackers. I heard exactly one all day today. It's not just you.

3 weeks ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

at least my cats appreciated this development

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I actually predicted this would happen.

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Was your reason the economy? Or, fear of being caught by this new militant law enforcement environment?

3 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

neither... lack of national pride given the fascists in control

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

To be fair, the sun is still a couple hours away from setting in much of the US

3 weeks ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

The sun had already set on the US.

3 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 12

Where I live, they usually start setting off their own fireworks a week before the 4th, with more and more people doing it every day, and on the 4th, it's happening all day long, even with the sun being up...
But this year... not one firework the whole week, nor the whole day.

3 weeks ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

yeah we had people shooting off over here (NY) but not as much as usual. theyre starting right now which i dont understand bc the sun is still out

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

where I live people usually don't care about whether the sun is out or not... and yet NO fireworks, like AT ALL... I expect the ONLY fireworks I'll be hearing tonight will be coming from the Mall of Georgia across the street, as their official yearly display

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

im heading out in 30 minutes to shoot off some fireworks. my son has never really seen fireworks

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Here in Tukwila, Wa ... it's sounded like a fuckin' warzone all day.

3 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

It sounded like the sky was exploding last night, with so many going off around us.
We don't let any off, my wife has Cerebral Palsey and firework noises makes her body jump. Couple that with a hurt back that tenses up even more from fireworks and it's a miserable time. Fortunately she now has noise-cancelling headphones that block most of the sounds, though her ears hurt after wearing them for hours

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same here in Vancouver, WA. Shit was going all yesterday and has been a fucking cacophony since about 9 AM today. One of the most absurd years I've witnessed.

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'll have to verify this tonight. Sure, fireworks are way more expensive and there's fuck all to celebrate right now, but it's not as though that's going to keep the firework-shooting assholes from their day of trying to out-asshole each other.

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I don't think the expense is the real issue, that'd result in fewer booms or the start of the booms being closer to the fourth, not none at all. I haven't heard ANY even though people usually start a week ahead

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

A lot of the comments are mentioning burn bans. With climate change, those are happening more often and in more places.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Burn bans have NEVER stopped fireworks from going off in my area before.
You REALLY think the people stupid enough to blow their fingers off CARE about burn bans?

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did notice less leading to the week of. But the 4th my neighbors were all going crazy after 7. I think it was the heat and we also had scattered thunderstorms.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know, I have noticed the same thing. Maybe less disposable income ?

3 weeks ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 1

and less to celebrate

3 weeks ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

Might also be due to there being less people who would normally light the fireworks. As in, if it were immigrants before and maybe they don’t want to bring attention to themselves this year.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That is racist as shit .

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm going to light up a sparkler just to have a quiet fu to my association . But that's about it. No sparklers ? Give me a break.

Speaking of...
Georgia of all states recently passed a law to give home owners rights to flex against an HOA, as well as creating a lot of red tape for HOAs. Like HOAs have to go through a yearly certification process, and they're unable to levy fines or put liens on homes without the certification.
I still wouldn't get an HOA home in Georgia though.

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I actually have more good stories about my HOA for them helping me, but usually hoas can suck a dick.
