This is literally a passage in the Bible. Matthew 25:31-45. The Bible is quite clear on how the whole "I said I was a Christian all my life and I did my best to make sure that those I look down on suffered" ends, and it's not good if you believe it. Anyone who calls themselves a Christian and thinks they can hate the downtrodden and cheer for cruelty has failed the open-book exam :/

Depends on the version. Some require repentance and have nasty things to say about false believers. There's even a bit in the New Testament where two people, Ananias and Sapphira, refuse to share their wealth with other Christians and lied about how much they had donated to the Church. God smote both of them for their wickedness. (Acts 5:1-11)

It's hypothetically possible to realize how much of a shithead you've been and truly, honestly repent right before you die but there's near-0 chance of that happening, and anyone waiting until they're dying to try and sneak it in is running a fool's gambit. In order, 1. Because God values free will per the Bible. If you don't accept the gift, then He won't force it on you. 2. How many conversations a day do you have where you already know pretty much what the other person is going to say? Dialog exists not only to communicate information, but also to establish relationships. Also the same as answer 3. 3. Yeah, a LOT of the "big" christian organizations emphasize token gestures, pray aloud at every meal just to hear yourself pray, go to church every week to check it off your list, etc. But those things are openly antithetical to what the Bible teachers. There aren't really any token gestures prescribed in the Bible, everything has a purpose.

Problem is, deathbed repentance isn't what these people believe in, these are "through faith, not by works" christians. If you actively believe that some lady eating a pomegranate damns you to hell just as much as punting a puppy into a volcano, and the only way out is faith, that's the natural outcome of that belief.

I mean it's a natural consequence of faith-based salvation. Based on their own understanding of salvation there's absolutely nothing preventing an evangelical from accepting salvation on their deathbed and getting into heaven. You could maybe argue that planning to do so might somehow indicate that the person isn't sincere in their conversion, but the fact that it's on their deathbed is irrelevant.

Bible-based belief system for like a dozen reasons. This isn't a "faith-based" or "works-based" distinction, it's a "do you think you or God are smarter?" distinction. Sadly, a huge chunk of people who call themselves "christians" fall squarely in the "I'm smarter!" bucket, and so believe that living their lives how they want and sprinkling on a few magic words/actions to get God to give them access to heaven is the best answer. But the Bible is very clear that that's not how any of this works.

Except, again, nowhere is this said in the Bible itself, in fact the opposite is stated. It's almost like the people in power noticed this religion of the poor was expanding quickly and they came in and made sure that it would benefit them. Then when the peasants decided that tithes were bullshit, they started pushing the idea that you'd get into heaven just for saying you believe, and therefore you don't have to follow any of the teachings and just do what we tell you
