Mads laughed and basically said that the population of Denmark was 99.999999% white at the time and it’s a true story. Lord of the Rings is based heavily in British folklore, Avatar (not the blue one) takes a lot of inspiration from asian cultures, and Moana was fully inspired by Polynesian cultures.

In terms of fantastical stories like this, it's generally supposed to be what the world was like through their eyes at the time. So with their beliefs and such being real, this is the real world to them.
If you genuinely believe a cyclops is real and write a story in which a man meets a cyclops, to you you are writing about the real world.

The funny thing is that when Scarlet Johannsen was cast as Kusinagi for The Ghost in the Shell live action, the people who cared weren't even (generally) Japanese. All the interviews I saw at the time with folks on the street noted that they were pretty excited that a big actress was in the role, and noted (very practically) that Kusanagi's body was cyborg, so race really wasn't a thing.

the examples you listed were makoto kusanagi and goku, so i figured you were defending the decision to cast white actors to play them in their works' respective live-action adaptations in spite of the fact that both characters are intended to be read as east asian-passing (i say "passing" because goku's an alien but he's very much portrayed as "normal"-looking in the setting's mixture of chinese and japanese elements, his tail being the only unusual thing about how he looks).
